Feature Request - Add "Multi" tag to Channel Layout

I am having trouble creating a Focus on all my multichannel recordings. I have a mixture of FLAC and DSF rips ranging from 4 to 6 channels. When I look at the version in my library, Roon gives them a “Multi” tag in the interface but there is no way to select this in the Channel Layout Focus. Stereo is there. Why not “Multi”?

Thanks.

In the Album screen, open Focus and all the way to the right (at least for me) is the Channel Layout where you would find multi channel files.

Thats the problem I have a Weather Report rip which is 4 channels and it says Mulit in the listing but is nowhere to be found in the Channel layout. Only stereo, and 5.x variants appear. There needs to be a broader net to capture anything that is more than stereo.

You can negate the Stereo filter. This gives you all tracks that have more than two channels. Is that what you are looking for?

AFAIK, Multichannel albums should be listed by the number of channels in the Channel Layout criterion of Focus, like this:

So I wouldn’t expect to see an entry for “Multi”, but your Multichannel albums should be listed by the number of channels they have.

Do you not have the Weather Report rip listed as a 4 channel layout item in Focus?

I notice that Roon is adding the “Multi” label only to DSF albums in my library, Flac multichannel albums don’t seem to be getting this.

Edit: I notice also that your DSF rip is shown as having 6 channels, not 4, so wouldn’t it be listed under the 5.1 criterion?

6 channels = 5.1

Most of my multi-channel albums DSF or FLAC are not showing up. The Weather Report is from the Quadraphonic mix. I think it shows up as 6 channel as that is the only way it reads it even though there are only 4 channels.

For instance, the Beates Love is nowhere to be found in the Focus.

I think Roon’s handling of multi-channel needs to be looked at. Currently it is missing most of my albums that are multi-channel.

I have several dozen multi-channel rips and only 3 show up in Focus??

Okay, I see what the problem is. I have all my versions Stereo and Multi-channel grouped together as one album with different versions. If I ungroup the Weather Report it now shows up in the Focus.

It is not clear to me why this behaves this way?

So duplicates get hidden, only the primary version is visible (and shows up in filters or focus results or the album page in general).

Yep. I had to set Roon to “Show hidden tracks and albums” to see all my multichannel versions (Settings > General). :+1:

SACD has no four channel format, only two, five, and six channel formats.
