Roon is slow, freezing or won’t start

· Roon won’t start up at all

Tell us what's going on

· just updated to latest roon version 2.66 that requires libgc 2.27
my server is an antipodes running fedora 25

Tell us about your home network

· so, I would like to get back to previous roon version on both
server an remote (pc windows)

There is no other version available. Indeed Fedora 25 was end of life almost a decade ago.

You need to move your device to AMS 4 or 5, and should contact Antipodes for support.

Support,

There must be the capability to rollback to previous version. All SW suppliers do so. Roon is far from being a free SW, and what reason can you raise for refusing to supply the previous version ?

Best regards

There is no rollback available.

This is just unacceptable for a product of this quality and price and I suppose you have too many customers

I am a volunteer community moderator and do not represent Roon. I am informing you how things are.

Moreover, it is not unusual for software to have no rollback feature, or for software to continue functioning on an obsolete OS.

Running Fedora 25, which ceased receiving security updates and patches in 2017 exposes your home network to security vulnerabilities and current threats.

You really should update the Antipodes to the latest supported version, which will also run Roon Server.

OK - problem is the antipodes runs sonicorbiter : if it is easy reasonably easy to move from fedora 25 to 27, then to 28, it is much more complicated to upgrade sonicorbiter and on top of that I have no time for this task
in case it helps other users : it is much easier to install docker and put latest roon in a docker container (docker is somehow comparable to a virtual machine)
it just works fine with same sound quality as far as I can appreciate

Regards

Whilst you may now run Roon server, you continue to run an insecure OS, and should reach out to Antipodes for support to upgrade AMS.
