Description of the issue
I am creating albums dedicated to some jazz and classical music concerts that have taken place in my hometown. For this work I use Yate with the “Roon+” panel.
Put your request in Feature Suggestions would be my guess. Please check first if a similar request/suggestion already exists and don’t forget to add your vote.
Note: Roon Labs is monitoring all the feature request but usually doesn’t comment on them and there is also no public roadmap about planned features (and release dates) available.
PS: The important part here is that if you want to do your work with those albums now, you have to do it the “hard” way, there is no point in waiting for Roon Labs to eventually (or not) add that feature for you at an undetermined time in the future.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely write something in #feature-suggestions
In the meantime, I continue the work using Roon’s editor: there is no alternative!
Since neither the Metadata of MusicBrainz, nor those of Discogs, nor the commonly used tag maps [Tag Mapping - Hydrogenaudio Knowledgebase] refer to performances Live, I think it’s correct to assume that it’s a tag used by Roon.
You can make things slightly easier by editing multiple albums or tracks in one operation that applies the Live tag to all the selected albums or tracks.
Roon does honour my FLAC tags for live, and I don’t use Is Live. I reckon the Yate author can write an action to populate the correct fields for you, so Roon reads this metadata (@Snowdog may be able to guide you on the steps as I don’t use Yate nowadays.)
Hi Geoff. Thank you very much for your suggestion. I immediately applied it, making these observations:
if I select two or more albums, I can only declare once for all that they are Live albums (great)
if I select two or more tracks in an album, I can only declare once that they are Live tracks (great)
if I select all tracks from a playlist, I cannot declare that they are all Live tracks because the Roon interface does not allow it (ohi!)
Option 3) would be the most convenient for me because I already have a playlist with all the tracks I would like to identify as Live tracks. Following your advice, I can still practice options 1) and 2).
Helpful comments, thank you. Unfortunately, for now, neither Yate nor any other tag editor can help because Roon’s metadata model does not include the ability to read the Boolean value of the Field “Is Live?” in the audio file. The Data Source of this Field is “Roon or Edit”. In my case, if I have an album that collects audio tracks from a live concert, I have to use the Roon editor to declare that they are live tracks.
Software like picard or mp3tag allow you to create the “live” tag that roon reads perfectly. If you already have files with the “is_live” tag filled in, you can simply copy it into the new field
As MJW mentioned, I’m a Yate user & have had many actions written for me by Yate’s creator.
That said, I have no experience with the tag you’re talking about as I’ve never heard of it let alone used it.
I can say that if you go onto the Yate user forum and explain your issue in the “Questions” forum, you may well get an action that you can add that will do what you’re after.
I use the LIVE tag, which Roon supports. Therefore, it should be fairly straightforward to have an action that copies the boolean from IS LIVE to LIVE. The action can be applied to the entire library.
As I said, I’m a regular user of Yate. It’s a very versatile application, with very good support.
Please note that the latest version of “Roon Mappings”, downloadable here: https://2manyrobots.com/YateResources/docs/RoonMapping.html
offers the possibility to easily mark whether an audio track is Live or not.
The interface is this:
I have to correct something I said.
Contrary to what I have said, it is possible to select audio tracks from a playlist and designate them as “Live”, but as long as they are limited in number.
