FiiO R9 misidentified as FiiO R7 in audio devices (ref#9Y0PJ0)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· My FiiO R9 is showing as an FiiO R7 in audio devices

Tell us about your home network

· I am using a TP-link Archer BE550 standard settings no VPN, on devices on the same wifi network

My experience of FiiO would be they used the same firmware/Roon Ready implementation.

Or you have an R7 :man_shrugging:

Post a pic of your R9.

Hello @Inderjit_Gill ,

Thanks for reaching out to our support.

We are sorry to see you found yourself in such situation.

Would you mind please uploading logs folder from “RoonServer” location to our Logs Uploader ?

Also, please make sure that your device’s firmware updated to the latest version.

Thanks.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have uploaded the log files as requested. I have the latest R9 FW 1.04. Windows device manager show this correctly as an FiiO R9 as well as mac OS.

LOL, for what I paid it better be an R9. I love it as a desktop DAC, works very well with my UM MEST MK II.

Thanks for bringing your server back online @Inderjit_Gill, we’ve shared the diagnostic report with our partners team, who will investigate further.

We’ll have more information to share with you soon, thanks for your patience here!

Yep, that’s a R9 but it shares the same firmware version as the R7.

It maybe the same FW, however both Windows 11 and MacOS detect it as an R9. I assume as it is also Roon Ready, Roon at some point had also certified the R9 and would have its own designation and Icon. Although the icons I admit would be almost indistinguishable. I’m hoping there is a difference in which Roon works with the R9 as opposed to the R7, big upgrade in hardware, ie DACs, HDMI Arc, etc. But if it’s in name only, it would be nice to show up as an R9 if not anything other than just bragging rights

Hi Roon Team,

I hope this helps with troubleshooting. When I am in USB DAC mode and not using Roon Ready on the FiiO R9, it does show up as an R9, even letting me use WASAPI exclusive mode. So it looks like the issue is only when I use Roon Ready Mode. See DAC mode SS below.

@Inderjit_Gill ,

Thanks for confirming that.

We already found that it just initialized itself in Roon Ready mode with following name: “VendorModel: FiiO R7” .

Our team has reached to manufacturer and possibly they will change it on their side.

Unfortunately, it is not something that we can do ourselves since it is up to the device to initialize itself and not Roon.

Thanks for your cooperation on this!

Hello Team,

Thank you for following up so quickly. I understand it is a FiiO issue. I will not be holding my breath on FiiO creating a fix for this. Hopefully I am not losing any out on any enchantments or options over the R7 and that this issue is in name only.

Regards

Jit

Hi @Inderjit_Gill,

We’ve reached out to FiiO directly, and while we aren’t able to speak on any specific timelines, if there is any new information shared our way, we will notify you directly via this thread.

Since this may take some time, we’ll go ahead and close the thread for now. That said, when updates are available, we’ll manually re-open and notify you.

Thank you @Inderjit_Gill!
