Describe the issue

I thought I had resolved the issue yesterday. I update the firmeware to 1510 and Roon will not play any music, I can see my library press play and nothing, it just hangs, reboot the Rock and it defaults back to 1490 and the music still does not play. Wont even play music stored on a HD . `Wont connect to Tidal, just everything appears frozen

Describe your network setup

Roon Rock connected by ethernet to wifi router

I’m hoping this helps explain

This is also an issue where it is constantly struggling to access Tidal and so playlists are not updating asin the second image its constantly updating something

Hi @David_Pullum,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue. SInce the Roon server keeps reverting let’s try reinstalling the new version. You can use the below steps.

  • Stop RoonServer from running in ROCK’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your ROCK’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Roon database folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Let us know if the other issues you mentioned persist after installing the new version of Roon Server.

Thank you

I performed all of those steps and it booted up and the iOS device started loading all of my music
As soon as I went to play something I get " looking for Roon Server"

Another update:

I rebooted the Roon Rock, it fired up and has defaulted back to the 1490 build

This is very frustrating

Music now plays but its defaulted back to 1490

Updated to 1510 and its held but I have not rebooted the Rock so not going to chance it.
Roon iOS working well and quicker

Still no idea why when I reboot the server it defaults back to 1490

Hi @David_Pullum ,

I’ve activated diagnostics and I’m not seeing any errors with the update procedure. Feel free to give the reboot a try when you’re comfortable, and if it doesn’t hold, let us know and we can recheck the logs for clues, thanks!

Hi Daniel

I’ve just performed the latest update

My server has updated to 1517
Yet my phone is still 1510

I am experiencing very poor playback even on Live Radio where I keep getting Roon lost control and playback stops

Ok I have done the update
Rebooted the core and it’s defaulted back from 1517 to 1490

Hi @David_Pullum,

Can you please share a screenshot of the RoonOS Web Administration page?

Try creating a Backup and reinstalling RoonOS itself via the web administration page.

We’ll watch for a response. Thanks!

I backed up and completely reinstalled twice the last time this happened and it’s still happening

One question

I updated Rock before the iPhone app
Would that create this problem?

Just very frustrating every time there is an update I get these issues

Hey @David_Pullum,

Thanks for the update - it does appear that you’re ROCK is running the latest version of Roon.

No, this shouldn’t matter, you can typically select ‘update all’ as well and it should push the update across all your Roon devices if there online and connected to our upstream servers.

As a quick side note, we’re seeing some potential hardware-related issues tied to a external drive attached to your ROCK - a Seagate M3 Portable drive to be specific. If you can, we recommend checking the health of this drive. While it likely doesn’t have anything to do with your update issues, it does seem to be failing when attempting to connect to your ROCK.

We’re seeing a handful of network-related errors as well - is your ROCK hardwired to your primary router? Can you give your router a reboot, and see if your issues persist afterward?

Thank you

I ran a first aid on the Seagate and there initially was an issue
I have removed it from the server as tbh there was not a massive collection on there

Yes the server is wired directly to the router, i will reboot and see if that makes any difference

BTW is it normal that the roon rock is on 1517 and the iphone 1516 ?

Hi @David_Pullum ,

Thanks for letting us know you were able to correct the Seagate errors. Do try the reboot and let us know how that goes.

Yes, sometimes the versions will differ. When we have releases, we mention the latest build numbers in our release notes section:
