[Fix for inability to start playback is live in #1595] Sonos device not working via AirPlay2

ROCK based system. Ropiee & iPhone can play music but Sonos via Airplay 2 never starts Playback clock stuck and no sound. Can only listen if I transfer to iPhone or Ropiee zone. Reboot and power down doesn’t fix this.

Thanks for flagging this! The fix is supposed to be included in the scope of the next release.

It seems as if multiple AirPlay2 devices (Sonos, Denon, B&O) are exhibiting the same behavior – it looks like playback starts, but the counter stays at 0:00. I’ve had to resort to using Roon ARC at home to AirPlay to Sonos. Playback to the main rig via RoPieee is unaffected.

In the past, AirPlay2 issues were resolved with a new Early Access release. Is one forthcoming?

Yes. This was not a problem at all in the prior release. In the more distant past there had been AirPlay2 issues that the team resolved. Thanks for following up. Other than the Ropieee everything else is Sonos via AirPlay2.

Early access 2.57 (build 1595) solved this just in time for Thanksgiving. Thank you.

Prematurely reported success. Airplay2 works for about 10 sec then playback stops.

Good morning. Yes, playback starts fine and stops about 15 sec later on Airplay2 zones. Using Arc as fallback. Thanks for your attention to this. This has been the only time that early access is led to significant & prolonged issues. It would be great to get this sorted before Christmas! Thank you.

Perhaps you’ve done something on your end to fix this? Airplay2 fine this AM with no intervening reboots or updates. I will keep you updated. Don’t want to send you on a wild goose chase.

The current symptoms you described look to me like a different problem, to be honest, since the original issue was the playback could not start at all. Let’s keep an eye on that:

Frustrating update. Roon unusable on AirPlay. Playback. It either doesn’t start or stops playback randomly. No issues at all with Ropieee. Arc is similarly afflicted with AirPlay but not iphone.

This is the first time Early Access has been a problem, but it is bad. Hoping the new stable release this week helps. Happy to work with you tomorrow to help troubleshoot.
