[Fix in #1595] No Bang & Olufsen devices work via AirPlay 2 in 1584

Under 1584, my B&O devices (various, from brand new to older) do not work via ROON. They’re visible, but when you try to play, nothing happens.

I am able to play to all of them via ARC + “real” AirPlay, but not via the server (Roon Nucleus, wired). I’ve checked both wired and wireless devices, and none work.

“Real” Apple devices (HomePod (1st gen) and HomePod mini) work.

Hi David_Nanian,

We’re looking into this on our side, but it would help us a lot if you could share one more piece of information:

When you try to start playback to a B&O AirPlay zone from Roon Server, do you see the “Playing Now” signal path appear briefly and then stop, or does nothing happen at all?

The signal path shows, and the playback seems to be starting, but never moves past 0:00.

In case this helps make it clearer:

Could you please send us a screenshot of your Settings → Audio screen in Roon? This will help us better understand how the AirPlay zones are detected on your setup.

It’s far too large for a screen shot. Here’s an example:

Note that I disabled a bunch of previously active devices in order to rule-out problems. Note, too, that some devices are showing up more than once…but I’ve tried both. See this:

Same IP, same service, different name. Here’s the airplay mDNS info:

David_Nanian,

Thank you for sharing this information.

Our team is currently reviewing the details and investigating this case further. I’ll update you as soon as we have more findings.

Were they working before 1584 ? If so, was that consistent ?

I can’t say: I was traveling when this version was released, and I don’t remember if the previous release was working in this case (since I was preparing for the trip). But certainly it was working in the recent past, since I use it often this way.

Our technical team is now investigating this case in more detail.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information.

David_Nanian,

Could you please try the following and let us know the result?

Go to Settings → Audio in Roon.

Disable all Bang & Olufsen AirPlay2 devices, except for one (any one you choose).

Try playing music to that single AirPlay2 zone.
Does playback still get stuck at 0:00, or does it work normally when only one B&O device is active?

Thank you!

I’m traveling again right now, but I’m pretty sure I already did that before I wrote in. It didn’t make a difference. I won’t be back until Sunday evening to verify.

Verified that it fails with a single AirPlay device enabled.

Hi, @David_Nanian, thank you for trying that. This issue is in our dev team’s pipeline, hopefully, they will be able to come up with a fix soon.

Thanks!

Hi, @David_Nanian, we release a change which might help to improve this behaviour in the latest EA build #1595, could you please update to the latest build and let me know if it got better?

Ivan

Airplay seems to be working again as far as I can tell. I haven’t tried every device, however - but I enabled one that was previously not working and it is now.

Would this also fix Google Cast? I haven’t tried…

Hi, @David_Nanian, thank you for the reply. I responded in the Chromecast thread.

Thanks!
