Since updating to B1674, I noticed a weird bug: There are local albums which seemingly cause roon application in the docker container to freeze, losing contact to all zones, or even crash when trying to initiate a stream and a particular roon ready zone. Roon server would subsequently restart. It is always the same albums causing the roon server to enter this death loop, unrelated to the format and resolution, can be FLAC, MP3 or AIFF files. The majority of local albums, even higher resolutions, DSF and multichannel, play just fine, and so does everything from Qobuz.
ARC is not affected, can play all albums through ARC, even those causing the server to crash when played on local zones, and it works fine even while playback on a local zone causes a total freeze.
Running Roon in Docker via Container Station on a QNAP HS-264. Sufficient RAM, no signs of problems with the music data or the machine. The only unusual thing I noticed is one or two CPU cores maxing out indefinitely, when roon is freezing while initiating playback. Until I stop the container or application crashes.
I believe the issue is not related to the location or type of the audio source, but rather the difference between playing the entire album versus starting playback from a specific track.In my environment, selecting an individual track causes the server to hang.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Tried to replicate that, and indeed there are albums, which are playing just fine, if you play the whole thing, and crashing once you start playback from a random track. But that´s not the case with all albums, some would let you start playback from any track without problems.
Tried to narrow down the problem, when noticing that mostly classical albums are affected by crashes, while pop/rock/jazz ones in the majority are not. What I noticed is, that seemingly albums with multi-track compositions seem to be most likely to cause the whole thing, and those with just one track per composition play fine.
To me it looks like, adding multi-track compositions from an album to the queue, causes the latter to overflow, max out CPU load and freeze/crash. That is happening even if you start from a ´single-composition track´, but have multi-track ones later in the album. That is not the case when playing the same tracks from a playlist or album added in its entirety to the queue.
Edit: Have found an album in my library which contains mostly single-track compositions, but also two multi-track ones
If I start any track beginning with the Choral “Herr Gott, dich loben alle wir”, everything plays fine. Once a multi-track composition like the Fantasia BWV 572 is among the upcoming tracks, it freezes/crashes. That is not the case if I start with the last movement of the multi-track composition “Lentement”, which also plays fine.
