Hi, new to Roon so this question has probably been poster but I have a large number of FLAC files and the same albums and songs in mp3. When Roon finds these how will I know which are FLAC and which are mp3? Or do I need to hide the mp3 folder so it isn’t discovered?
If you have them all in FLAC, I would move the MP3’s somewhere Roon cannot see them.
MP3 files show as MP3 if you enable the info to display or Roon may show the flac file and the MP3 under versions if they are duplicate
I guess the question would be, do you even want the MP3’s in Roon?

Not really. I kept them because some people I shared with didn’t use flac. I could delete them, I just hated to eliminate them.
Storage is so cheap, I’d just save them for mobile usage, USB stick in car, what have you. But I agree, best not to have them as duplicates in Roon. It will just drive you crazy when for some reason Roon plays an MP3 when you have the FLAC.

I agree. Not to mention if you ever add Tidal and/or Qobuz, you could end up with 4 versions of every song and album. I would just move them to a USB drive or a folder on your computer and don’t put them in your Roon music watched drive.

Roon will show both in ‘Versions’ tab but should play the FLAC as a better choice of the two by default.
For whatever reasons, I often find Roon selecting something other than the preferred version. For example, Roon often plays a Tidal or Qobuz 16/44 track when I have a 24/192 in my library.
Yeah, was it selected by Roon Radio? I find this happens with my library too. I’ve stopped worrying about it.
Yes, and I’ve stopped worrying about it too. Inherently, if it’s radio or shuffle, it is a bit background music for me, so it’s fine. If I wanted directed and focused listening, I’m choosing tracks and versions anyway.
But it IS counter-intuitive. Roon is like your spouse. You put up with quite a bit but you get good returns.

It is easy enough to keep them out of Roon. It sounds like the OP has no reason to put them in Roon.
