Focus filtering not working on Windows 11 with Roon version 2.58 (ref#ABFO0B)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

· Hi there. I noticed that the “focus” filtering option doesn’t work; for example, when I filter tracks by genres: classical and jazz, I still get tracks and albums from these genres (see screenshot). Does anyone know how to fix this? Thx.

My room version is: 2.58 (build 1608) production 64-bit.
My os is windows 11.

Hey @Eitai_Ben-Natan,

Thanks for writing in and sharing that screenshot!

When clicking the plus sign (+) on a filter, it actually applies an ‘exclude’ filter, which will exclude the selected filters. It also changes the filter from purple to red, like in your screenshot above.

Currently, your library is set to show everything except Classical and Jazz. To fix this, simply click the minus sign (-) to filter for those genres correctly.

Hope this helps!

Hi @benjamin

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I’m a bit confused. In the screenshot I shared, both classical and jazz are already excluded.

I checked the album in question, and it seems that it was tagged as “unidentified”, which would explain why it wasn’t filtered out in the first place (screenshot 1).

I excluded all “genres” from the track filters, and it seems Roon is unable to identify 8862 tracks by genre, which is quite a lot. Is there a way for me to force Roon to auto-classify these tracks? I want to avoid doing it manually (screenshot 2).

Thx.

Hi @benjamin

I tried to use the “re-identify” & “re-analyse” command options. Roon completed the analysis for both, but still shows the same number of unidentified tracks.

Any thoughts?

“Identified” in Roon does not mean “no Genre assigned” - it means that Roon has not been able to identify the album (and its tracks) in the central database maintained by Roon Labs.

This may be because the metadata in the track files is not of sufficient quality (or just wrong), or because the album is simply unknown, perhaps because of rarity.

While the Track browser can list all the Unidentified tracks, e.g.:

it’s probably easier to tackle identification at the album level, so in the Album browser you can see all your unidentified albums using Focus:

In my example, many of these are Podcasts (which Roon doesn’t know about), or albums that I have created from personal recordings (e.g. the Proms).

There are a few oddities (e.g. the Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 3, Isle of the Dead, Vocalise) that are showing up in this list even though they are known to Roon, and I’ll investigate those further…

Edit: they just needed to be manually reidentified…

Hi @Eitai_Ben-Natan,

Understood, apologies for the confusion there! @Geoff_Coupe is 100% correct with the above reply. It’s likely you’ll need to manually identify them via the albums browser.

Let me know if this helps!

No worries! Thanks for the advice @benjamin and @Geoff_Coupe, I guess it’s manual tagging for me then
