I know about the various questions what focus does and also read one specific answer to the question about displaying / hiding versions here: Only primary version shows up in filters?
May I still ask, whether there is a workaround for the following:
I have opted to not show versions of albums on the main album page - I like the uncluttered display of seeing just ONE album title and want to find another version I browse into the versions tab.
But sometimes, this makes me run into problems:
I have 150 albums in dsf format - most of these have alternate versions like CS rip or a HiRes download I bought.
When in focus I select “file type DSF”, only 30 of these albums are displayed in the results.
I know, this is the way focus is supposed to display its results, because obviously, for 120 albums I have decided to choose another version to be the “primary version”. This then limits the displayed results to those DSF-albums, that I did select to be a “primary version”.
But shouldn’t I be able to see ALL albums, that contain DSF files, when I search my database for DSF? There is a reason, I am looking for albums in DSF-format at that very moment. So why can’t I have both: an uncluttered album display with the great “versions” tab AND a full search without limited search results?
Just think about some of the results, you are going to miss: One of your “version-albums” is an Extended version, where additional artists or mixes by producers etc. come into play. You will not find them via focus, since they are “buried” under the primary version and thus not shown under focus.
Imho, it’s one thing to have the option of an uncluttered album display, but a completely different thing to limit search results to only a part of the existing collection.
