Hi @tomedeus,
This is probably not what you want to hear, but here goes …
“Data loss”, I’m assuming you mean there are no music files on the SSD that was fitted inside the Nucleus anymore.
The act of formatting any storage device will wipe all the data from it.
You will need to copy over the data (I assume music files) back on the SDD via it’s network share from a backup.
If I’ve misinterpreted your statement, please clarify what you mean.
Hi @tomedeus,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Is @Carl’s interpretation of your post correct? It is difficult to tell from what you’ve written here.
Carl,
Understood.
But that is not the problem.
Problem 1. Cannot format the SSD. I understood that Roon uses its own file system and came formatted with that. I need to format the SSD away from the most likely windows-based file system that it came with. Please help me do this.

Problem 2. Transfer files from external drive to the SSD on Nucleus One. I understood this to be easy but that is once you have done it.
Kind regards,
Tom
Check out this Roon help guide, if there’s a specific aspect you need help on just ask.
I’m assuming the external drive is connected to the Nucleus. It’s not possible to directly transfer files. It has to be done via network file sharing.
I would recommend following the “SMB Connection” method as detailed on this help page …
PS I recommend disconnecting the external drive from the Nucleus and connecting it to your computer. Which will reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred over the network.
Hey @tomedeus,
Thanks for the detailed follow-up! @Carl has aced the response above with the proper information that should guide you in the right direction. Thank you, Carl!
This is a good recommendation - it should allow for an easier drag-and-drop method for transferring your files.
Certainly, let us know if you run into any questions along the way. Our team isn’t around on the weekends, but we’ll be back first thing Monday morning.
