Frequent connection loss on RoonServer v2.0 with MacBook Air (ref#CA73YE)

What’s happening?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

Describe the issue

Hi,
Experiencing frequent connection lost, randomly
I run RoonServer v 2.0 (1480) on a dedicated MacBook Air (MacOS 14.1.1),
I only stream music from Tidal
(no library or music files)
Ethernet connection only (Wifi disabled)
Plugged in the main modem/router
Mac sleep mode disabled

I can send you logs, I have prepared Roon and Roonserver logs (before and after a crash)

Describe your network setup

Roon Server (Macbook) is connected to a small Ubiquity Unifi switch Flex mini
to one the Ethernet port of my Telus Arcadyan Modem (optic fiber)

Macbook use a dedicated IP
Speeds are always top... ~600Mb/sec.

Player is a Bluesound Powernode, connected to the same Ubiquity Unifi switch Flex mini (as my RoonServer) with a dedicated IP

Also...

I found in an other post to delete the "orbit_v3.db" which I did...
I also rebooted everything many times (modem, roonserver, etc... )

Hey @Daniel_Boutin,

Thanks so much for writing in and sharing your report! Welcome to the community as well - sorry to hear its and issue thats prompted your recent post though.

That would be most excellent - feel free to upload them here: File Uploader

Do you see this issue no matter the remote device you use? Or, do you mostly see it when navigating around Roon on the same Macbook air you’re running Roon Server on?

Are you performing any specific action when the issue occurs, or is it seemingly random?

In the meantime, let’s see if refreshing your database may help as an initial troubleshooting step:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:

Hi,

thank you for your quick answer !

To answer back to your questions :

rarely use Roon on this Macbook. Remote are iPad and iPhone…

Are you performing any specific action when the issue occurs, or is it seemingly random?

No… the connection just drop randomly… Just listening to music without browsing or using my iPhone/iPad…

In the meantime, let’s see if refreshing your database may help as an initial troubleshooting step:

I’m not at home today, will perform this as soon as I can.

Hi Benjamin,
Flushed databases and reinstalled Roon Server…
Still having drops.

Also…
Infos about the MacBook… 8GB of Ram…

Thanks for sending those over @Daniel_Boutin!

We’re seeing frequent connection errors with a few different services from your Roon logs, and believe it would be best to simplify your network setup as a next step.

First, safely stop Roon Server and reboot your machine. Set up a direct ethernet connection to your primary router, and reboot your router with this.

I’d next explore allocating network priority to your Roon Serc machine via your router settings. You should be able to access network priority settings on a Telus Arcadyan modem, you need to log into the modem’s web interface by navigating to “192.168.1.254” in your web browser, then navigate to the “Quality of Service (QoS)” section where you can prioritize your Macbook running Roon Server.

We’ll be on standby for your reply!
