· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

I have two libraries (identical). One is on my Diskstation 918+, the other is on the Nucleus One. The former barely ever has any issues, the latter freezes frequently or skips tracks or otherwise freaks out. I'm beginning to feel I shouldn't have bought this. Please help.

Hey @tau_ceti,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! Sorry to hear you’re having playback issues with your Nucleus.

To confirm, do you ever have both servers on and running at the same time under a single local network? This will likely cause issues if so, so I’d ensure that you only have a single server up and running within a single network and a single Roon license.

From your Nucleus, we’ve enabled diagnostics for the machine, and see repeated failures in track analysis tied to your local library. Can you review your Roon Settings>Library and both your ‘Skipped Tracks’ as well as your ‘Clean up Library’ settings? Don’t perform a full clean-up library, but clicking this will help identify if your local library isn’t functioning properly within your Nucleus.

Another good test here would be to temporarily disable your local libraries and only rely on Tidal/Qobuz. Then, test to see if you run into the same skipping and freezing.

While you’re testing out the above, let me know a more specific date, time, and name of the track playing the next time you experience this issue, and share that info here. We’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply! :+1:

Hi! Back to this after a very busy month. Roon just crashed on me again.

ok, so yes, i did have my second server running on the same network since if I had guests over I would use that instead. i disabled it.

ugh, i hit clean up library and there were 900 “deleted” files in there. i shouldn’t have done that should I?

it just happened to me with a track “the same river once” by rapoon. it must have been around 1030AM EST on 28 December 2024.

Hi, so … another note.

I didn’t get to finish listening to the piece. I will soon, to see if it crashes, but in the meantime. I have a 6e Ethernet network that is quite fast. The Nucleus One is patched into the very same managed network switch that everything else is. And … (this is behavior i would have earlier), it keeps getting lost on the network. Now nothing else is! And there’s nothing fancy going on. But if you were to ask… does my AppleTV drop out, do any of the 10+ computers here lose connections, does my Lutron or Shade Store bridge drop out? Do I lose connection to the Diskstation that Roon used to be on, the answer is no. Not at all.

Here is an example. lost connection - Pastebin.com

Hi @tau_ceti,

Thank you for your patience over the holidays.

We’ve taken a look at diagnostics and see RoonServer restarting cyclically every 0:26 minutes.

If you’re not intentionally restarting RoonServer from another controller on the network, then please share a screenshot of the Web Administration Page for this Nuclues One. Are there any errors present?

There’s not evidence in logs of network disruption, but if the restarts are an unmanaged crash loop, then we need to verify that the unit isn’t encountering hardware problems.

Hi, I am not restarting it intentionally. It did not appear today, so I wound up rebooting the whole network. It finally reappeared. I think we had a minor black out or brown out, since I noticed a few devices did not appear. This happens rarely, 3-4 times a year. Here is a screenshot of the admin interface. I just checked and it is still running after 35 minutes.

I don’t have such reboots on any other device, so this is rather inexplicable to me.

Still going over 8 hours later. Not sure why.
