Frequent freezes with "Waiting for Roon core" message on Roon Nucleus (ref#YIILU3)

Update: step 1 did not help. I ordered 8 GB RAM and will be installing that soon. Would it make sense to go to 16 GB or is that overkill? Step 2 I could try but I do not see a solution there, only diagnosis. So I think I will try the database refresh next.

Edit: Ok, that was a bit more work than I thought and I thought I had lost EQ profiles and such, but after restoring the backup all seems to be back to normal. Unfortunately, that includes the crashes… No improvement at all, in that regard.

This leaves the RAM upgrade and the streaming services to explore. I doubt the latter has anything to do with it, because the crashes happen when I merely scroll through my albums, so without actually streaming anything.

Once again, the issue arises when I scroll through my albums faster than the album covers can be loaded. This sounds like a memory issue, right? But your diagnosis did not show any memory issues, which I find puzzling.

Hi @MatW,

I think 16 GB would be a bit overkill for a library of your size. But if you plan on expanding your library and you found a good deal on a 16GB RAM then it certainly wouldn’t hurt. Let us know how the RAM upgrade goes.

We are investigating this side of things right now. It is possible that the issue is memory but we can’t say for sure until our developers complete their investigation. We’ll keep you in the loop as we learn more.

Next and hopefully last update :slightly_smiling_face:.

I replaced the 4 GB RAM with 8 GB, and I think that solves the issues. Much faster in general, and I have not had any crashes since. I hope I am not celebrating too early, but looking good so far. Wondering now if I should have gone straight for 16 GB but I can always do that later. Is 16 GB the largest RAM being used in these devices?

Thanks to the Roon folks for helping out. I guess for your learning the question is why your diagnostics did not detect any memory issues. But in any case, I am happy that it seems to have been resolved now. Thanks again.
