re: BBC 4 LW end of life approaching:
@Gareth_Irwin what is your server running on? If rock/Nuc, there have also been issues with the codecs which require a new/different version to be installed.

I was using cloudflare too. And having plenty of drop outs.
I switched to google dns and not a single drop since yesterday morning.
BBC R3 has been running non stop for the past 8 hours here.
Prior to switching to google dns, with cloudflare dns, it wouldn’t play 10 minutes without stopping.
I’m in the UK
I know what I’ll doing tomorrow morning…
Certainly, let us know how the different DNS server performs @AndyR - an investigation from our team is going to be a bit on the slower side as we attempt to reproduce it in-house.
Thanks for your patience!
Hi @Gareth_Irwin,
The team is investigating this issue. Allow me to merge your post into the tracking thread so you can receive updates from the team.
I’m on google dns, I dont think its a dns issue I think you just have a coincidence, once in a while we have no issues all day then another day it will be problems all day.
I switched the router to Google DNS this morning about 08:50 GMT and started BBC 320k streams to two endpoints. The R3 stream (to a CCA endpoint) has run continously until I stopped it a few minutes ago prior to stopping Roon server to check the logs. According to the log, the R4 stream (to a Naim ND5XS2) dropped at 19:29:34 GMT with the ‘usual’ warning.
I’ll leave it with Google DNS for now and see if it recurs.
You might be right, but I don’t think we have enough evidence yet.
You could try reverting to the Virgin DNS - everythng else might slow down (that’s my experience) but the BBC stream drops may go away. You can always change it back if you get too many screams of protest.
It may certainly be the case that the issue is not related to the DNS.
However, I’ve had it on google DNS for 2 days now without a single drop. And I have R3 running pretty much all day in one room. I know it hasn’t stopped as once it stops it doesn’t restart automatically.
I’ll switch it back to Cloudflare today and see what happens.
To aid in fault-finding, I’ve tried 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8, Virgin’s DNS, NextDNS and Mullvad DNS. It drops on all of them. Like others, I have a Virgin DOCSIS connection with pretty unimpressive latency.
Like others, BBC Radio 3 sometimes will manage hours, but most days it lasts between 2 and 20 minutes. There are equal amounts of success and failure whatever DNS provider I use.
If I listen on my cheap WiFi radio rather than Roon, the connection is solid as a rock. But not as nice-sounding
