· Roon server frequently drops connection on home network
Tell us about your home network
· Verizon FIOS Gateway router. All connections are wifi. Roon Server is running on a Geekom NUC running Windows 11; there is no other software installed on this device. Control devices: Windows 11 laptop & Android 16 (Samsung) phone.
Thanks for the details, and for sharing the network setup.
Since your Roon Server is on a Geekom NUC running Windows 11 and everything in the home network is currently on Wi-Fi, we’ve requested a diagnostics report from the machine so we can take a closer look at what it is scanning.
Please turn it on so we can retrieve it.
That should give us the next piece we need to track this down.
In cases like this, the most likely cause is a Wi-Fi connection issue.
We would recommend wiring the machine running Roon Server directly to the router with an Ethernet cable, since Roon is quite sensitive to network interruptions and that can make a significant difference.
Also, could you please let us know if Roon stops playing when the connection with the remote is lost?
Wifi connection to each machine (roon server, laptop, & cell phone) is stable and consistent, the problem seems to be that they just stop talking to each other. The connection usually comes back after a few seconds, or at worst a restart of the remote device.
The drops most often occur when playback is paused or idle, but when they happen during playback Roon does stop playing.
Thanks for the added detail. Since the connection usually comes back within a few seconds, or after restarting the remote, that does point us toward a communication issue rather than a full network outage.
Has the new Roon update helped at all? If not, we’ll enable diagnostics and please let us know the exact local date + time when you notice the next issue. That will help us line it up with the behavior you’re seeing in the logging.
Actually, in the course of troubleshooting I think I answered my own question. I adjusted Windows power settings on the roon server so it would stay awake for your diagnostics, and upon turning off power saving mode and switching power settings to “balanced” it hasn’t happened in several days. I think perhaps Windows was droppping the connection to save power, or something like that. Thank you for your replies.
