FYI: Windows 11 Smart App Control can block Roon Client and/or RoonServer

Kind of an FYI post. This was noticed awhile ago by a fellow user awhile ago, but, as Windows has been rolling out updates, it might be more and more common. I wanted to get the information out there, so if someone has an issue, they now have something to check and potential quickly resolve it.

Currently, there is no way to exempt a specific application, you have to turn OFF SAC (SmartApp Control).

There is currently no way to bypass Smart App Control protection for individual apps. You can turn Smart App Control off

Also, the ability to turn ON or OFF SAC may require a complete Windows re-install. Here is a clip from my settings.

For me, it is currently OFF and I would have to re-install Windows if I wanted to turn it on. I don’t, so I’m fine with it’s current state. Future Windows updates may change this behavior.

I agree - its an annoying feature with Windows 11. I had to rebuild my machine, and it was enabled by default, half the stuff didn’t work - until I disabled it. Best to keep an eye on those updates that may break things.

Thanks for sharing this new feature. This will undoubtedly become an issue for many. Every time there’s a window update, I have to reboot my desktop as Roon ARC won’t work until I apply the updates and reboot.

I’m planning on moving my Roon server to the Unix platform as Unix trends to not have all the updates constantly being pushed out.
