It would be nice to be able to segregate the headliners from the players when browsing Artists in Genres. The Artist list when looking at Jazz is overwhelming due to the side-players being included with the headliners.
I don’t mean to be snarky, I’m genuinely curious. How do you define a headliner vs a player? I’ve got a modest library of about 3K albums with a large percentage jazz. Under my genre listing for jazz I’ve got 472 artists nearly all important musicians or bands. Take Pat Metheny. He started as a player with Gary Burton, but is clearly now a headliner. But he still plays side gigs with other musicians most recently with Coung Vu who was previously a side player with Pat’s other efforts. Is Coung Vu a player or a headliner? Who decides and how?
For instance, if I click on Bill Evans, I would rather not see Kind of Blue because it was Miles’ album.
That still doesn’t answer the question. Bill Evans is clearly a headliner. At what point is he a sideman and at what point is he a headliner? Who decides and how do you accommodate that relationship in terms of the Roon database?
Bill Evans is a sideman on Kind of Blue and the leader or headliner on Waltz for Debbie. Miles is the leader on Kind of Blue and sideman on Swedish Schnapps on which Charlie Parker is the leader. It depends on the recording.
