I’m going to be dividing my time between 2 countries for the near future. I’m talking months ( 6 months etc ). I have Roon running on a QNAP NAS at home. But when I’m in the other place I’m contemplating moving it to either my Mac m2 laptop or m4 Mac mini. And when I return home I’d want to run it off the NAS again. Is this possible? What is the best way to do this? Thanks
Maybe Roon ARC is for you. Other options is to remotely tap into the mediaplayer on your NAS.
Don’t use Roon ARC for this. Install Roon on your laptop. That will install both the Roon server and Roon client. While away from home, authorize your laptop Roon server and unauthorize your at home Roon server.
This works well if you use Tidal and/or Qobuz. If you use local music files, you will need to copy those to your laptop or a USB drive to attach to your laptop. I do this all the time with no issues.
That looks like the way to go with installing Roon vs Arc. I use Roon Arc locally and it never works well. I also used it while traveling recently and couldn’t access my library at all.
When you’re in the other place, what will the rest of your system look like? Just a single zone with headphones, or will you have multiple zones, including loudspeakers in a room?
Initially just a single zone with headphones. But it may evolve over time to have speakers.
