Hi. I went through the steps twice just to be sure 12:25pm pacific time. Roon is still converting DSD to PCM. There is no option for anything DSD in settings (Device Set Up). I will remind that the DS10 Plus is working as expected and it has no settings for DSD under device set up. I am assuming that if it is playing natively there is no need for settings? Also both Gold Note DACS are running the same firmware. Also I have had no response from Gold Note Italy as well. I am attaching screen shots.
It looks like the goldnote only supports DSD above 64 on RoonReady with the USB-B input , not the other USB input or the general network protocol.
When you mention:
You were likely plugged in via USB-A. As for next steps:
Can you retest the higher DSD files with the USB-B port connected to the non-working Gold Note. That should be port 7 on the rear panel.
If DSD ins’t available for the Gold Note over ethernet, it is for the other, proper functioning Gold Note, the non-working Gold Note is probably defaulting to the general network input instead of the Roon Ready input. What could be happening is both Gold Notes are announcing themselves as the same MAC ID or something so Roon Ready only sees whichever connects first.
Does the non-working Gold Note DS-10 connect via Roon Ready and offer DSD as an option if you turn the second (working) Gold Note off completely?
So, goldnote supports dsd via the network and usb. My ds10 plus is configured with the network way and works. When turned off the new DS10 still receives downsampled PCM.
I connected with the roon ready way for both of them. I connect the new ds10 via usb I see it is shown being connected to the nucleus and will allow me to configure dsd to be converted but not natively.
@benjamin I wanted to let you know that I retried everything. I am posting pictures. I powered down the ds10 plus that is functioning properly. The ds10 still plays dsd files that have been converted by Roon. When this unit is connected by usb in port 7 it is still receiving converted files. When I enable it as a connected to nucleus it prompts how I want to convert the dsd files.
I thought your idea about Roon seeing them as the same address was a good idea. However I shut down the functioning unit.
Also a reminder. DS10 will play DSD FILES NATIVELY THROUGH THE GN APP.
Also reminder . DS10 Plus has no options for DSD and is playing natively.
I turned WiFi off on the ds10 and used Ethernet from the router. Still no change .
This setting is only available when connected via usb directly to nucleus. This DAC however is located upstairs and will need to be WiFi. My other ds10 is WiFi and is playing DSD natively.
Hi. I have been down that rabbit hole. I see issues from a while ago as well.
Hard for me to understand why one unit is working and the other is not. They are both running the same firmware. Frustrating.
I tried calling the old USA dealer today who I bought the unit from to see if there is a way to reset the unit to factory settings. I left a message. I wrote to Gold Note .it no response.
The other thing that I don’t understand is the working ds10 plus has no DSD settings under device settings. It just works.
I have an answer to question at hand!
The original DS-10 and DS-10 Plus (not the Evo devices) differ in capabilities.
Decoding Native DSD on streaming input is ONLY available on the DS-10 Plus from SerialNo: 70985
This is due to a hardware requirement that was implemented on the Plus-series from the given serial no.
And, i can’t take credit for this detailed info, as i got it from Classic Design, Swedish importer of Goldnote products.
Sorry about this Michael, but you are not missing out on a great deal of sound quality here, it is more of a “stone in the shoe” regarding functional expectations.
One last thing. I got a hold of Goldnote and they are looking into it as well. If anything changes I will post it here for anyone else that may come across this problem.
