Google Chromecast display vanished

I know this topic has been raised before but nothing seems to work.

Purchased a chromecast to allow Roon to display on the tv while listening and all was well after initial setup but after a week the display just vanished from within Roon.

Everything in the house can still see the chromecast.

I’ve tried the following

*router restart
*chromecast restart
*Roon restart on the core machine
*app close and restarts
*tried using the app on the core and 3 other devices
*checked they are both still on the same network

I’m lost as to what to do now and a bit hacked off as I went out and bought the chromecast specifically for this one job!

I’ve moved your topic to the Support category of the forum, where it will be seen, and responded to, by a member of the Support team.

Can you please let Roon Support know these details so that they can better assist you? Thanks!

Roon Core Machine
Include your operating system and machine info (Model, CPU, RAM)
Networking Gear & Setup Details
Your network gear (model of routers/switches) and if on WiFi/Ethernet
Connected Audio Devices
Specify what devices you’re using and their connection types, like USB/HDMI/Chromecast, etc.)
How is your Chromecast connected?
Wifi or ethernet?

You say that the Chromecast has “vanished” - so it’s no longer listed in Settings > Displays?

CORE - MacBook Pro - 2.8ghz core i5 - 8gb - Big Sur os >>> this is an older Mac dedicated to being an always on Roon Core

Networking - Altice Labs fibre gateway router GR240BG core connects over wifi

Connected Devices - Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 - Wired to Router and used for main system /// primary Mac book pro for headphone listening > this is separate to the core MBP /// iPhone 14 for ARC /// Chrome Cast 2020 connected to living room TV > this is the display it cannot find /// Technics SCC 30 wireless streaming speaker >> wifi connection and stream using inbuilt chrome cast

The Chromecast connected to the TV is counted to a HDMI port and connects via wifi > Chromecasts do not support wired network connection

You don’t seem to have answered this?

For info, Chromecasts can have a wired connection - Google has a Chromecast power supply that has an ethernet port on it that makes a wired connection for the Chromecast.

No it is not listed in Roon settings under displays nor is the displays icon now showing when playing music.

EVERY other smart device in the house that’s compatible can see it and all its own network features work as expected.

It is literally Roon that can no longer see it after it having initially worked.

We’ll have I have to say this forums proved super useful

Hi @Peter_Cadman,

I apologize for the delay in getting a response to you.

I wish I could try and duplicate your issue but I don’t have a Chromecast to do so. Now bear with me, I don’t have the device or use the display features of Roon in this manner but do you see the device listed under other devices in settings>audio? If so, is it enabled?

I am going to bring this up on my next call with development and see what pointers they can give if you’re still having issues. Please do let me know!
