Describe the issue

HDMI connection problem. I have a ROON NUCLEUS ONE server and a NAIM UNITI ATOM network music player, both connected by cable to the HDMI sockets.
When selecting an audio device in the ROON application settings I select the Nucleus One HDMI Output from the available list, then identify the device from the list as a Naim Unti Atom. This device becomes available when I select the audio output of the ROON App player, I select it and press the PLAY icon. The process of music playback starts, but there is NO sound on the NAIM UNITI ATOM output device.

On the NAIM UNITI ATOM I select the HDMI audio input, there is a pause of 2 seconds and then the message ‘NO INPUT SIGNAL’ appears on the NAIM UNITI ATOM display.

What am I doing wrong ? Help me.

Describe your network setup

Since in my case there is a direct connection via HDMI, network issues are not so important. Although if I select the network sound source NAIM UNITI ATOM, there is sound, which indicates that there are no problems with the local network.

Are you using this:

If not, try it.

I have MAC OS. Yes, I have this option activated. And in the list of available audio devices this output is renamed, now it is called HDMI - NAIM ATOM. I forgot to write that my media box is located on a SAMSUNG 8 TB SSD, which is mounted in the NUCLEUS ONE.

Dear ROON specialists ! I have checked many variants of connection to HDMI input of NAIM UNITI ATOM , - from other sources everything works normally ! There is only one option - there is no signal from HDMI output of ROON NUCLEUS ONE ! Please give me clear instructions on how to activate the output signal from the HDMI output of the ROON ONE music server.
If I connect to NAIM UNITI ATOM via network local connection, the music plays, but as soon as I select the HDMI audio output in the ROON app, the sound is gone!
What is the correct way to activate the HDMI output from the ROON NUCLEUS ONE? Please note that I activated the ‘Nucleus One HDMI Output’ audio output in the ROON app settings in the MAC OS environment, which I then changed to ‘Nucleus One HDMI Output’. which I then changed to ‘HDMI NAIM UNITI ATOM’.

Please help!!!

Hey @SHKODA_OLEG,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report! Sorry to hear about your playback issues via HDMI.

Does playback failure occur regardless of the file format and source file?

The first area to review: the firmware version of your Atom - can you please check and reinstall the latest firmware on the device?

From a recent Nucleus diagnostic report, we’re not seeing any obvious errors when you attempt playback to the Atom via HDMI, for example:

Trace: [RaatSender] [HDMI NAIM UNITI ATOM] [zoneplayer/raat] Endpoint Nucleus One HDMI Output State Changed: Ready => Playing
Trace: [Broker:Transport] [HDMI NAIM UNITI ATOM] [Inactive] [PLAYING @ 1:15/3:18] Un Puente - !!! / Angélica Garcia

Can you confirm you’ve access the zone settings > device setup and configured the proper sample rate / bit rate settings for the Atom?

Another simple test - using a different HDMI cable, if you have one available.

Lastly, if you could, please access the webUI of your Nucleus and share a screenshot - here’s more info on how to access the webUI of your Nucleus:

Thank you! :raised_hands:

You advise me :

Can you confirm you’ve accessed the zone settings > device setup and configured the proper sample rate / bit rate settings for the Atom ?

Where should I look for this ? In the settings of either ROON NUCLEUS ONE or NAIM UNITI ATOM ?

If in the settings of NAIM UNITI ATOM, I can’t find such settings. If you know and tell me the way to them.

When connected to other sources via HDMI, music on MAIM UNITI ATOM plays without additional settings - FLAC 24/192 without problems.

I have two ROON NUCLEUS ONE devices and both have the same problem. There is no signal from HDMI output.

NAIM UNITI ATOM is a highly intelligent system and there can be no problem with different conversion frequencies.

Is there any possibility to activate the signal from HDMI output manually in ROON NUCLEUS ONE settings?

Read your own Naim manual and specs. That is not an HDMI input — it is an HDMI ARC port. It will not work connected to a computer server.

I was about to say that :+1:

In addition, the Atom is a Roon Ready device and it should show up as such in Roon > Settings > Audio, so simply use this via the network as designed

Thanks for the advice ! I will know now. And one more question - will the HDMI connection of ROON NUCLEUS ONE with MSB PREMIER music server work via a special module - MSB TECHNOLOGY Universal I2S Input HDMI Modul ?

Great eye @WiWavelength - my apologies for not connecting the dots there @SHKODA_OLEG.

And as @Suedkiez has mentioned, the Atom is Roon Ready, which will absolutely be the best way to stream audio to it!

The HDMI output on the Roon Nucleus One is designed primarily for multichannel PCM audio and may not be compatible with proprietary I2S implementations - if MSB has confirmed that their Universal I2S Input supports standard HDMI audio input (rather than just I2S over HDMI), it might work—but I’d recommend checking directly with MSB to ensure compatibility.

Yes, thanks for the advice, I will check with MSB. Can you please tell me if there are any hardware encoders that can be used to convert the HDMI output signal of the ROON NUCLEUS ONE music server into an HDMI ARC signal for the NAIM UNITI ATOM?

Yes. They are called TVs.
