Description of Issue

I recently purchased a Hegel H390 integrated amplifier, and installed the latest firmware update from Hegel which enables the internal streamer/DAC in the Hegel to be controlled as a Roon endpoint.

All has been running well for 3-4 days, without issue or flaw. But today, somehow, the Roon app lost control of the Hegel. (The Hegel displayed ‘NETWORK’, as opposed to ‘ROON’, and Roon Remote did not recognize the Hegel as an endpoint.)

So I restarted all elements of the system (Nucleus, EtherRegen and Internet Router) as well as forcing a reinstall of the latest Hegel firmware update.

As a result, Roon now sees and can play through the H390 as an endpoint, but after about 5-7 minutes of playing, the music will stop, and on the Roon Remote app it says …

Roon lost control of the device due to input being switched

I touched nothing and did not switch any inputs.

After about 15-20 seconds, Roon ‘sees’ the Hegel again, and I can restart the music. But then, the ‘loss of device control’ with attendant error message happens again, and again, repeatedly, after 5-10 minutes of playing music.

The frustrating thing is that everything had worked perfectly for 3-4 days, then this ‘loss of device control’ problem has surfaced today, and I don’t know what I can do about it.

BTW, Roon has always run well on my other endpoint devices such as my Cambridge CXN V2, Node N130, Weiss 501 streamer/DAC and so on. There have been no system or NUC changes otherwise.

Anyone know what is wrong here? Any help is appreciated.

I’d say a network issue is a potential culprit. If you share the details of your network setup, it might help people to help. Most importantly, how are your core and H390 connected?

Might be worth double checking that you have the latest firmware. There have been three firmware releases with Roon support and I had to run the updater three times to get to the current version. Make sure you have the IP address of the H390 in case the update hangs (mine did) that way you can access the H390 web page and re-run the update until it gets over itself!

Have you tried to bypass the EtherRegen? Just to be sure.

Thanks all, it appears the problem may either be the specific network feed (Eero 6 mesh wifi pod linking into my Core) or my choice of ethernet cable that the H390 did not like. I have reset the Eero mesh feed as well as swapped to a more conventional (less high end hifi) LAN cable and the Hegel seems to be very happy, no more drop outs or weird behavior. Thanks for your input.
