When listening to my downloaded files on Roon ARC and bluetooth headphones, the DSP will automatically resample all files to 24/48. This causes a huge battery drain, to the tune of ~20%/30mins. This isn't an issue when using the in built Music app, presumably because it doesn't do any audio resampling on the device side.
I understand that this can be mitigated by downloading files under 'balanced' rather than 'original source', but I use a wide range of listening equipment, so this isn't a workable solution for me.
Is this an issue that the Roon team is aware of? If so, how are you planning to fix this issue?
Hi @kotm,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Can you share some screenshots of your MUSE settings in ARC including the settings for sample rate conversion? We want to see if there’s anything in your configuration that might be causing this.
Thanks for the update! Please know our team is aware of Arc battery functionality, and has shipped a handful of improvements in this area already. In the same breath, I also want to clarify that Arc isn’t designed to function like an iPod or other portable media streamer, so you’ll likely run into performance based issues if you’re attempting to store a large portion of your library on the device.
With that, how many tracks are you attempting to download and store on the device?
We’re certainly continuing to push improvements, and are investigating potential battery drainage issues linked to staying on the ‘now playing’ or ‘queue’ screen within Arc. If you navigate away from these screens, does your issue persist?
Thanks for clarifying. I would love for ARC to be a replacement to the in-built Music app. If that isn’t the intended purpose, can you help me understand what ARC is designed to do?
I’m finding that staying on the ‘now playing’ screen does have an impact, but I’m also finding that I can feel the device becoming warm while it’s in my pocket and playing music.
I’m storing around 11k tracks on the device currently, and I’ve chosen ‘balanced’ as the source. It seems as though the battery impact isn’t quite as severe, but it’s still draining quite a bit quicker than the in-built Music app.
