Describe the issue

Hi,
i am having a following problem since about 2 month. My Mac mini 2018 i5 / 8gb ram running Roon server gets loud after some hours. RoonAppliance uses 400 - 500% cpu. I have not changed anything. Im having a tidal and Qobuz account, several iPads running Roon. Sonos and Roon bridge Speakers. All updates applied. have done a smc - reset.
Stoping Roon server and starting it again solves the problem for some hours.
I hope you're able to help. Thanks!

Hi @Martin_Grossmann,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue.

This makes me wonder if there’s something wrong with the database. Can you try a fresh Roon database using the below instructions?

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:

Good evening,

I followed your recommendation. However, I wasn’t patient enough and restored the backup after the new installation. After 17 hours, the CPU load is rising again, currently at 200%. I will perform another fresh installation and not restore the backup this time. I will get back to you afterward.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi @Martin_Grossmann,
Thanks for the update! We’ll be on the look out for the results of trying a fresh database.

After almost six days now, I no longer have any issues with CPU load. I restored my backup after the reinstallation, even though you hadn’t recommended it.

I can definitely say that the problems are gone. In the meantime, there was a Roon update (1510), which I installed, but I don’t believe it’s related to the CPU load issue.

Thanks for the support!
