High-pitched screeching sounds using Nucleus as server (ref#S60501)

Select your Nucleus model from the list below

· Nucleus Rev B

I'm having trouble with my Nucleus hardware

· Other

Select the option that fits best

· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

Minimal output and high pitched screeching sounds when using Nucleus as server but not when using Mac computer as server

What is the output device you are using and how it is connected?

And connected with the Melco being ROON enabled, thru wifi

Roon is flowing thru the Melco streamer and then a ROCKNA DAC, and playing on Hegel Amp.

Hello @Jesse_Eisler ,

Thanks for letting us know. Is there any pattern to the type of content impacted by this issue? Is it only TIDAL content impacted while other content works as expected? Are you able to record a short example of the noise and send it to our media uploader and let us know once uploaded?

Hi @Jesse_Eisler,

Please also share a screenshot of your Signal Path here. We’ll watch for a reply. Thanks!

Much appreciated…. I deactivated the Roon Nucleus and switched to an IMac server…so Inwill go back and add the Roon Nucleus and send the pathway soon.

Hello @Jesse_Eisler ,

Thanks for letting us know, we’ll be standing by when you have a chance to switch back to the Nucleus. We had a similar issue reported that was due to Roon Settings → Services → TIDAL → Streaming Quality. If this was set to Low, then similar issue could occur. If this is the same issue on your end, please ensure that your streaming quality is set to Max and let us know if that helps!

This could be the reason for the sound issues…. Under Tidal streaming quality is set to low, however, I am unable to modify it. There are no other options that I can access.

Are there no other options available if you click the ▼ in the Streaming quality entry?

BTW, I’ve blanked out your email address in that screenshot. It’s not a good idea to post private information in a public forum.

Hi @Jesse_Eisler,

I believe @Geoff_Coupe is correct with the above reply - you should be able to adjust your streaming quality settings in your Tidal preferences.

Let us know if this is possible for you. Thank you! :raising_hands:
