I have an Auralic Altair G1 with a music library on an internal SSD
I also have an Intel NUC running Roon Core
The Roon Core successfully sees and works with the Altair as a Roon Endpoint
My question is: Can the Roon Core see the library on the Altair in anyway?
Without this I have a duplication of music on the Altair with other sources.
Happy to accept this is a stupid question as long as someone explains where I went wrong
First a general comment…
Roon works by pulling the music to the Roon Core, processing and then sending it out to the selected endpoint. If the Altair is the music source (playing a NAS role) and the endpoint, then what you would have is the music being streamed from the Altair to the Core and then back to the Altair. Depending on your network, and especially if WiFi is in the chain, this can potentially cause playback issues. I always want to keep the music local to the Roonserver.
On to your question, I found on Auralic’s website the following: https://support.auralic.com/hc/en-us/articles/206620037-Copy-Music-to-Internal-Storage
It seems to indicate that on the Mini at least (and I’m assuming the Altair would be the same), the storage is exposed as an SMB v1 share. This means that you should be able to from a PC (like item 2, pic 2 of the linked website) see the share. If you can get to the internal storage via Windows explorer, then, you should be able to add that as a network storage location in Roon.
In essence, you are treating the Altair as though it is a NAS, so, you might also want to review Roon’s FAQ page on adding a NAS. https://kb.roonlabs.com/FAQ:_What’s_the_best_way_to_configure_my_NAS_for_Roon%3F
Thank you. That is clear.
