How can I tell which saved DSP Preset is currently applied to a zone?

I have multiple DSP Presets saved. But I see no way to knowing which preset has been applied to a given zone. Instead, I am forced to check all the settings to manually identify which one is selected. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

You can’t.

Which is a shame, I’d prefer the notion of ā€˜active’ presets.

I’d also like to be able to save adjustments back to the active preset, rather than keep saving new ones and deleting the old ones.

I thought that if you select a preset then make changes it automatically changes the settings for that preset (via auto save). Is that not the case?

Fully agree that:

  • you should be able to edit saved presets (if you cannot already)
  • you should see which preset is the currently selected one

@Brian explained that a preset is just a way to apply several settings but it does not remain in effect. You can change anything and save it.

It’s like a bookmark. I can go to Albums, sort by Date Added, define a Focus (high res only, no Polka), and save that as a bookmark Good Stuff.

Later, if I select that bookmark, I can see the browser settings and Focus, but I am not ā€œinā€ the bookmark anymore, it was just a quick way to make dome settings. I can change those settings without affecting the bookmark.

I can see how that might make sense for bookmarks – that’s how traditional browser bookmarks work, although even there you can edit them.

With DSP Presets, I imagine that all users will make many tweaks and they should have and easy way of making adjustments and saving them.

I would suggest that the behavior should be:

  1. User makes settings and saves them
  2. A green indicator lights up to show which setting is currently in use
  3. User changes any settings
  4. Preset indicator changes color to orange to indicate that the current settings don’t match the last selected preset and user is prompted to either update current preset or create a new one with latest settings (this prompt would remain on the screen throughout the editing process and remains until the user either does one of those two actions or selects another preset – in the case of the latter, the user should be warned that there are unsaved changes to the last preset: save to previously selected preset, create new, or ignore changes and move to recently selected preset)

Also, since multi-zones are so important in Roon, I would also suggest that there should be a control to indicate which zones a given preset may be used in. It will reduce visual clutter in the selection process during playback. Which is another area that could benefit from some user experience improvements to make it easier to change presets while playing. And icon that shows a drop down of the presets available for that zone while playing would be ideal. For example, in one zone I switch back and forth from loudspeakers to headphones on the same DAC fairly regularly…

1.3 is a huge step in the right direction and the team did a great job incorporating so many unplanned changes in a short time span. I am sure they are being flooded with feedback. I hope the above are considered among them and can make their way into a future release.

I’d like Roon devs to add access to DSP presets directly from the ā€œvolumeā€ icon. Instead of just seeing ā€œDSPā€, which brings you to a fairly complicated UI, it would a) show the current active preset, and b) allow you to switch to other presets.

The current UI on this is not exactly elegant.

My primary use case (what prompted me to write this) is I have a PEQ preset to boost bass for low-volume listening. Obviously whether I have that on will be pretty variable, so that quick access is important to me (and say, to family members, who won’t understand the details of the more complex DSP UI).
