How does HQPlayer overwrite/dismiss my DACs built in DSP?

I have the Topping DX5. How does HQPlayer filters overwrite my DACs?

I know with a NOS DAC theres no DSP to overwrite but how does it work with modern DACs?

From what i understand, HQPlayer applies its filters, then it is sent to the DAC. At this point, what happens to the DACs filters? Are they also applied or does the pre applied DSP from HQPlayer stop the DACs filtering from ‘activating’?

Just trying to understand this better!

Well, your DAC filters are also applied…

Whether DACs use OverSampling or not, the vast majority of them use filters to reconstruct the analog signal.

What HQ player does as well before resampling into a higher PCM format or converting the signal to DSD.

Just, HQ Player is considered to be better at OverSampling than the Hardware feature embedded into most of the DACs.

Hope this can help.

One way to make sure there is no or minimum oversampling taking place in the DAC’s usually inferior DSP is to feed at maximum native input bitrate and speed. It will unfortunatly still apply DSP as long a volume is operative or if you still are able to e.g. apply DAC propriatery filter setting. But some DAC’s offer to turn volume of and set filters to “none”. That will make the DSP less engaged or even off.
