How to back-up music collection from nucleus+ internal storage

I have a Nucleus+ installed on my home network that has 22540 tracks stored on the Nucleus+ Internal Storage. I am trying to make an offsite backup of the tracks, and have plenty of disk drives handy to do so.

I use the Roon client SW running under Windows 11 on an HP PC, connected to the Nucleus+ on a wired LAN.

When I type the Nucleus+ IP address 192.168.1.19 into the PC, I get to the Nucleus+ System Status Page (see below).

What is the correct file path to enter to get to the music track files?

I have tried 192.168.1.19/DATA/STORAGE/INTERNALSTORAGE and get an error message saying the page can’t be found.

Thanks for your help,

Pat Kenealy

I use copy then paste from the Windows File Explorer.

From the Windows 11 machine on the same network as the Nucleus, select the windows explorer icon from the task bar. Or press the Windows logo key + E on your keyboard. Network should appear at the bottom of the items on the left side of the display. Click on the Network arrow > to bring up that list. Rock or Nucleus should be listed. Click on the arrow > then the arrow for Data, then internal storage. The folder for your music should be there. Right click on the folder and select copy.

Go up the list to the drive you plan to create the backup on. Right click on that drive and select paste. The music folder structure will be duplicated on that drive.

This assumes you have access to the Nucleus from your windows 11 PC. If not you will need to setup a share. I’m not sure how to do that on Windows 11.

I have a NUC/ROCK, your Nucleus may have different folder names. If you can’t access the Nucleus data from your windows 11 machine post the information here and someone should be able to help from there.

I think that you are typing this into the web browser on your PC; that’s not what you do, you use the Windows File Explorer to access storage folders on your Nucleus+. In addition, be aware that there may be two issues at play here:

  1. Changes that Microsoft has made to security means that it is no longer possible to access Nucleus or ROCK folders. Then the Group Policy Editor of Windows can be used to work around this.
  2. Windows File Explorer has a habit of not finding non-Windows devices in your network until it’s told to do so. So typing \\Nucleusplus\ in the address field (note: NOT the Search field) of File Explorer will kick Windows into displaying it again. In this situation, mapping a Windows drive to a folder in the Nucleus will pin it permanently in File Explorer as a drive on your PC.

If you have issue 1, then this article explains how to gain access to the folders on your Nucleus+:

Hi @Patrick_Kenealy,

Good to see you on the community again!

You’re in excellent hands with both @Mike_LC and @Geoff_Coupe - we don’t have any additional troubleshooting steps to add based on what they’ve already suggested. Let us know how the above goes and if you need any further assistance!
