How to back-up roon music

What is the best and easiest way to back-up my roon playlists, albums, etc and
to be able to reload them onto the roon server? Thanks Jim

Note that this only backs up the Roon database (playlists, credits, tags, etc.) but not the actual local music files. Some more information would be useful about your setup, the devices you have, etc.

A few months ago, my roon had a issue. Once the issue was resolved a third of
my library was lost. The lost music was mostly joint playlist from Tidal and Qobuz,
that I created by using roon. I will be moving to New Zealand and would like to
bring roon with me. However. I thought it wise to, if possible, back-up my library
to avoid the possible lost of the library. I hope this helps. Jim

James,

As @Suedkiez says, there are two sets of data to back up with Roon. The first is the database where Roon keeps its details about your music; and the music files themselves.

Maybe you’d explain in a little more detail, please, whether - after the recovery you mention - the ‘lost music’ was Playlists themselves (which are merely text files which list/point to music); or whether actual music tracks/files are now not present in your library.

Before we can advise on backing up music files, please let us know which operating system you are using. For example, if a Mac, then you should certainly be backing up a lot more than your Roon library - with Time Machine and a cloner like Carbon Copy Cloner and/or SuperDuper. Either of these - as well as the equally venerable ChronoSync - will allow you to single out specifically the folder in which you have all your music files, and back it up - at the filesystem level.

Advice for either macOS or Windows will be easier also, please, if we know for sure that you mention your recent problems and loss (sorry to hear about that) for background information only. Or whether the issue is still causing trouble. I expect you know, for instance, that your Tidal and Qobuz files can still be used in Roon provided you have current active accounts with them, and that you’ll also be able to recreate the playlists for those if necessary.

Good luck!

I am Windows and use SyncBack pro,

In mirror mode you can designated a master and destination , then sync to a BU based on changes to the master , so once BU’ed any subsequent BU is quite quick.

I have my main library on a desktop then sync’ed to the NUC/ROCK , each HDD in the desktop has 2 x USB HDD as BU , belt braces and a bit of string !! These are backup weekly.

Roon db is BU daily to one of these drives and hence copied weekly too.

I meant more like

  • what kind of computer are you using as the Roon server
  • are you using Roon with just streaming or with local files
  • if you have local files, where are they stored
