Is There a Way to Display Only Album Artist?

Hi @Karl_Mayhew,
Thanks for reaching out to ask about this. It sounds like you’re trying to view the artist page from within an album — to do that, simply click on the artist’s name at the top of the album view. That should take you straight to their artist page.

Let me know if that works or if you had something else in mind!

Hi, no that’s not it at all. I want the main ‘now playing’ page (artwork, data, title, artist, etc) to show the artists name that matches the album. Let me give you an example: Neil Young Mirrorball album. It will say ‘Neil Young, Pearl Jam’. 100% understand why the DATA is there (searching, sorting, etc) and it’s great to know all of that exists - but I want to just see ‘Neil Young’ since that is what it says on album (even tho everyone knows Pearl Jam was the supporting studio band. Some of these have VERY long artist titles, showing tons of stuff. Especially in ARC in my car, where screen realestate is valuable, I just want to see artist correctly. I was hoping there is a setting for this (but could not locate it)

Hi @Karl_Mayhew,
Thanks for the clarification, and sorry for the confusion earlier. If your files have the metadata you want to use, you can instruct Roon to prioritize that metadata by going to Roon Settings → Library → Import Settings and selecting the “Prefer file” option under the relevant metadata fields. This should help Roon display your artist and album information as expected.

Let us know how that works for you!

Your metadata is already there. Let me look next time I am home and I’ll give you another description and maybe snips. But I’m pretty sure you have more than one field for artist (but no method to setup song page to select which you want displayed)

To my knowledge there is no configuration or global setting to control the display of album artists. You will need to edit on an album by album basis which may not be a practical option if you have a large library.

In your example, if you want to remove Pearl Jam then click on the 3 dots → edit → edit album:

You will then get to a screen similar to this:

Click on artists like Pearl Jam that you do not want displayed to negate them. You will also have to chose or edit the “Album Artist” display text options so that only the primary album artist is displayed.

Hi @Karl_Mayhew ,

Please try out @tripleCrotchet 's suggestion and let us know how this goes, thanks!

OK, Here is an example with pics:

In the case of the album Rust Never Sleeps, I don’t really care if it uses Roon’s data, or file data - they are both the same (and both correct per the artwork, wikipedia, Discogs, etc. (see snip 1):

image

HOWEVER, on both Roon Arc (Apple CarPlay screen, PC, iPad, etc) THIS (see snip 2) is what shows - highlighted matches the album artist data in file and snip 1. however, it adds these additional fields (circled) of breaking down the artists name separately, which is redundant and in the case of small screens, takes up too much space:

Now, all I am asking for is a similar setting to what you already have - clearly, the highlighted field is Album artis, but you have a second field called Artist. why can you not have a user setting which of those fields (or both) to use? you have settings for just about everything else. Please see snip 3 for additional clarity for this related title (data is typical for any artist):

I do hope this helps, let me know what you think (or if this exists and I am just missing something).

I do hope my explanation with images helps with understanding the request. I am already aware of the editing of database suggestion offered by the fellow user. However, yes, I do have a large library, and I don’t mind cleaning that up slowly over time (as I’ve had to for song titles, etc). But I hope now it’s clear that you for whatever reason have chosen to use TWO sets of date for artist (Artist and Album Artist). This feature request is to let the user choose which of those to display upon playback. Then and only then would it make sense to override database errors on a case by case basis.

Hi @Karl_Mayhew,

Thanks for the additional information! So you’re specifically interested in what is displayed within Arc.

You’re absolutely right — this falls more into the category of a feature request rather than a bug. I’d recommend posting your idea in our Feature Suggestions section on the community site. That way, it’ll be visible to Roon’s Product team, who regularly review requests there.

Let me know if you have any additional questions :+1:

Arc and Roon both when playing and displaying album yes. Thank you for confirming this cannot currently be done.

Hi @Karl_Mayhew,
Thanks for making the feature suggestion. I’m going to close this thread for now since it’s been passed along to the product team. We appreciate your input!
