I switched to Roon roughly a month ago. Roughly a quarter of my collection was unidentified (~2,000 out of ~8,000 albums); I have a lot of vinyl rips of relatively obscure dance and “world” music in my library that must not be included in Roon’s metadata services.
I’ve been adding genre tags to albums as I import new things into my collection or as I listen to older albums, but I would like to add tags to the remaining unidentified albums. Is there a quick/easy way to find albums in my collection that don’t have any Roon genre tags?
As an aside, for your collection as you describe it, I’d really recommend using the metadata from Discogs & any tagger that uses a Discogs plugin - I use MediaMonkey (disclaimer: no association at all to either company !).
You should be able to search for the exact release of your Vinyl & add that exact metadata to your rip - which would include all Genres, catalogue numbers, label information, composers / musicians / participants, release dates…etc etc etc etc etc etc (!) - which then gives Roon’s ‘munging engine’ a really good source of data to sort through…
Yes, we’ve actually made finding unidentified albums much easier. To do this now use the focus tool then scroll until you see the Inspector column. Select Identified, then click the Identified tab again to see the inversion, unidentified albums. All the focus tabs can be toggled in this way.
