How to integrate a non-network Amp with a Roon Core

New to the Roon / Hifi world. I listen to Qobuz, mostly for the High Res music.

My system:

  • Roon Core on Windows 10 Laptop running 24/7,
  • AvR Receive (Marantz SR7015, roon tested), located near to the core.
  • 2.1 speaker system

After listening to music from integrated amps, I was convinced of the better SQ. Choice filtered down to:

Cyrus offers better quality and connectivity than the Nad. My roon core is located near my setup, so I was thinking to cable connect the core with the cyrus. I need some advice and thoughts. There are two scenarios:

  1. USB: from the laptop to the amp. Amp is hooked to the Pre-Out of the AVR. Speakers hooked to the Amp.
    - Would it work? Is is a clean solution considering the noise levels in a USB cable?
  2. HDMI: from the laptop into the AVR. Amp is hooked to the Pre-Out of the AVR, Speakers hooked to the Amp.
    - In terms of the noise levels in the HDMI cable vs. USB, which connection is cleaner?
    - Was wondering whether the AVR would alter the sound signal affecting SQ when passing through to the Amp. Don’t know whether this is the preferred method for the best SQ. An advantage here is to display the roon page on the TV connected to the receiver with an HDMI ARC, but that’s not important for me.

If I go with scenario one, and later decide to upgrade to 5.1, I’ll have to hook the side speakers to the AVR with the front speakers still connected to the amp. No idea if that will work.

Thanks
