How to make fiio btr15 work with roon?

So today i received the new dac i ordered, fiio btr15, and i just cant make it work with roon using bluetooth… any ideas if its even possible? Before i was using a generic BT dac and it worked flawlesly though with the basic codec SBC. I tried disabling all the codecs using the fiio control app so that i can force the use of sbc but it still drops out like CRAZY. Using it with say youtube it drops out less, before ddisabling the codecs it was hell even with youtube, now that sbc is forced youtube sounds better but roon is awful with the drop outs.
Using a notebook btw for the server

Appreciate any tips. (with the phone it works flawlessly and sounds great using BT)

Hello @TheGuy ,

Thanks for reaching out. Since the issue happens just on the PC, are you using the latest Bluetooth drivers? Can you please let us know the exact local time + date + track when the issue next occurs? We’ll enable diagnostics to see if logs provide clues. Also, I assume that your System Output on PC (internal speakers) work as expected?

hello, yes i guess so, i uninstalled the bluetooth intel internal drivers and reinstalled them i also installed the drivers for the fiio dac but those are for usb connection.

The issue literally occurs with any track all the time inside roon, its dropout after dropout, you cant hear anything for more that 0.2 seconds. Right now i had to restart the pc and youtube is back to dropouts like hell, unusable. The dac reads on the screen aac 48k right now while i p[lay youtube in the pc.
Yes internal speakers work alright if i disconnect the dac bluetooth.

Thanks for the additional details @TheGuy - you mentioned reinstalling BT intel drivers, I’d also try temporarily rolling back to an older Intel Bluetooth driver. The newest Intel BT stacks (especially 2023–2025) are known to:

  • aggressively switch to AAC
  • cause dropouts with HiFi DACs (Fiio, Qudelix, Shanling)
  • behave badly with laptops acting as the transmitter
Look in Device Manager → Bluetooth → Intel Bluetooth Adapter → Driver → Roll Back.

If rollback isn’t available, install an older package manually:

Search for:
“Intel Wireless Bluetooth driver 22.190.0”

Let me know if the above helps at all! :folded_hands:

in checked and i had an older driver installe. v20. something will install the latest 23. something

ok i updated driver, restarted and youtube played nicelt for 20 or 30 seconds then hell started again

ok i downgraded the driver finally it was a chore. Had to search all over the internet cause the dell support thing doesnt let me download drivers for win11 so i had to manage to downgrade to a win10 driver.

But now it WORKS!! roon plays flawlesly!! what?

Thanks guys, will see if no other bugs appear due to the old driver… but for now everything works OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

holy cow, the whooole day to make this work

Edit, I just found out it also had to do with the distance the Bluetooth device was from the computer. It was at around 7mt using aac.when I got it closer the problem went away completely.
