Hi ! When I purchased Nucleus and made my first subscription, I made my computer the server and Nucleus the core. My computer is out for repair . How can I make Nucleus both server and core ? Thanks !
I think you are misunderstanding the terms. “Roon Core” was the old name for “Roon Server”. So your Nucleus is where your Roon Server is running. Your computer would be running the client application: Roon, which is the Control component of the Roon architecture.
The Nucleus does not, and cannot, run the Control component. You need to install Roon on a tablet, smartphone, or another computer to connect to the Roon Server on your Nucleus.
Install Roon on a computer, phone, or tablet. That will be your Roon control device. Unauthorize your old Roon server and authorize the Nucleus as your new Roon server. Roon server and Roon core are the same thing. Core is an obsolete term.
In Roon terminology, Core has been deprecated and the term server is now used so a Roon Core and a Roon Server are one and the same thing.
Consequently, I’m not too sure what you mean when you say when you Nucleus is the core and your computer is the server so I am going to assume that you mean that:
- Your Nucleus is the Roon Server to which you connect the client.
- Your local library music files are on the computer which is thus acting as a file server (but not a Roon Server).
If this is the case, then the easiest way to move your music to the Nucleus is to copy it to a USB disk or SSD formatted as exFAT and then connect that USB disk to your Nucleus. You can then add the drive path to the set of watched folders in Roon → Settings → Storage. Just make sure that you remove either this path or your network path from the storage settings before reconnecting your computer when you get it back. You don’t want Roon to see two copies of you library files.
My understanding as a long term Roon life member is:
Roon requires a core (used to be called Roon server) which is the computer where your locally stored and streamed music is cataloged (metadata is managed) and which sends music to your Roon/ chromecast/ Airplay endpoints.
The Roon Core on a simple Roon setup can be on the same computer as your endpoint. Roon nucleus is one of the computer options.
On my rock install for Roon core use I needed to install codecs on Rock drive but I think these come with Nucleus.
For my Roon endpoints I just had to install Roon rock on the NUCs I am running.
When I swapped from my Grimm MU1 which I briefly used as a Roon server I just had to deactivate Roon server on this from Grimm device url.
You will need to deactivate previous Roon core to activate your nucleus as Roon core.

Andrew
No, it used to be called core. It’s called server now.
Thank you all !
I effectively read much trying to figur out how to solve the problem. Reminiscing some older comments from audio buddies who were early adopters, it might explain my obsolete comments.
After resettingthe Nucleus, control tablet and my network, I finally got control of the Nucleus…but lost Tidal control !!! It won’t budge to access playlists.
Click on Settings - Services - [Tidal] - Edit and log into Tidal.
