Any ideas on how to track down an unidentified album?
In April my Roon server logs reported thousands of unidentified albums. I’ve reduced that number down to 1 by removing the old Music directory, creating a new folder, and adding albums into it by batches and keeping an eye on any unidentified albums and fixing the metadata before the next batch.
However, I can’t seem to track which single album is not being identified. Log entries show:
Trace: [identification] retry queue has 1 albums but none ready for retry yet
Geoff’s use case of a “collection of various tracks gathered from disparate sources and placed into a folder” makes sense but I did not knowingly create or maintain such folders.
If focus is not working then there is probably no easy fix. But one thing worth trying, if you haven’t already done it, is “clean library”. Best case, the problem goes away.
Worse case, unless you kept track of which batch the unidentified album is in, is you may need to start over (cleaning the library before re-adding the batches). Once you know which batch the logged unidentified album is in, It’s a bit laborious but it seems to be important to you. If the batches are small, add the albums one by one from the effected batch until you find it. If the batches are larger and that is impractical, just do a “binary chop” on the batch until you find the sub-batch. This is a manual version of the most primitive search algorithm but it is surprisingly efficient.

Head to Roon settings > Library > skipped files
Anything showing?
Something similar happened to me a few years ago. My only resolve was a backup of Roon, mark the database folder as old and reboot Roon. Then restore from the backup.
Hopefully this works and hopefully your backups aren’t corrupt if this is a corruption issue.
Other than this it might need Roon support to poke about.
1 unidentified album is not a big deal but it annoys me that it’s there. Sooo… back to removing and adding in batches. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Edit: turn out there was an unidentified track in my library. Once I moved it out of Roon’s music folder, the unidentified album log message stopped. Found the track by using focus inspector (- identified) on my Tracks.
