HQ Player - No route to host

I’ve recently purchased a M4 Mac Mini Pro and wanted to to try running HQPlayer from it. My Roon library is on a remote Synology NAS and I’ve selected the output as my Holo Red. All of which are visible from Network and HQPlayer desktop.

However, I’m getting the error message that there is no route to the host and cant assign requested address.

I’ve selected the network control option for HQPlayer but clearly I’m doing something wrong. I’ve not had this error before so a little stumped.

Could it be to do with IPV6 settings?

No idea, its clearly a mac issue though as I have a windows PC on the same network connected to the same router via Cat6 and HQ sees the Red just fine.

Recent macOS has a really paranoid approach to local network access. You’ll need to go to Settings>Security & Privacy>Local Network and add HQPlayer as allowed to access other IP addresses on your local network.

Thats what I thought too but its already approved.

You can ignore this if the connection actually succeeds. HQPlayer has support for both IPv4 and IPv6. Depending on the network, IPv6 may fail and in such case HQPlayer falls back to IPv4-only mode.

If you see the NAA in HQPlayer settings, then it is fine.

Worth tying to exit HQPlayer, then toggle local network access for it off and on, and finally start HQPlayer again. A similar issue happens with RoonServer on recent macOS, and that sequence of steps makes RoonServer see endpoints again.

hmm, now its stopped seeing the Holo Red and I just get the no route to host message. I’ve tried changing network cables, reseting the Red, reseting the router etc.

Its not a major problem was I wasnt planning on using the Mac for HQPlayer but its one of those ‘I need to understand why it isnt working’ situations.

Please check that you don’t have multiple network interfaces active simultaneously. For example disconnect the WiFi, or turn it off. Also check that you don’t have for example VPN active. Otherwise there is possibility that the discovery multicast messages end up going to wrong direction.

Sorry Jussi, I missed your reply.

I’ve tried turning the wifi off on the mac mini and turning on/off again all devices connected to the router, forcing them to reconnect but to no avail.

My network arrangement is:
Roon library on a Synology 918+
MacMini (running HQ)
Windows PC (running roon)
Holo Red

All devices are running bitdefender internet security.

Roon can see and connect to HQ player on the network:

HQ receives the signal from the windows PC on the macmini and attempts to output the stream:

So communication between these two is okay. However, HQ cannot see the Holo Red:

But if I run HQ on the windows PC, it CAN see the Holo Red:

For some reason, the issue is with the ‘seeing’ the red on the network.

Ignore all of the above - I just went through all the process again and for some reason it now sees everything and outputs. technology.. :man_shrugging:

I still get the ‘no route to host’ message but it does output
