Stuck when playing local DSD128 files on Macbook Pro (M1 chip 32GB RAM Tahoe) with REW room compensation filters in text form. I am sitting on the edge with 1.00x processing and the occasional splutter going <1.00x. I’ve tweaked away with filters and modulators under SDM to try and find a bit more processing headroom but therein lies insanity. I find myself wondering whether the Macbook is just not capable or whether there is something I have overlooked, whether HQP setting or Macbook setting. PCM inc DXD is no problem. Any help much appreciated.
Performing such operations on DSD source content is certainly much heavier operation.
I recommend trying with the “IIR to FIR” option in matrix enabled. Depending on filters involved it may be more or less efficient to process that way.
I recommend setting it to either greyed (keep the minimum phase) or blank. For most room or headphone EQ the linear phase conversion (checked) is not recommended, as it places the preringing in sensitive hearing frequencies and may make the sound harsh or otherwise bad.
Thank you Jussi, very much. Have been struggling with this all day. Your suggestion works perfectly. Now getting ~2.50x processing. Takes a few minutes now for the initial DSP processing but finally hearing those DSD128 recordings room compensated has put a big smile on my face. Thank you for all you do.
