Hi, just installed the new version 6 embedded for macOS Tahoe 26.5 on a MacBook Pro M1Max . This finally will simply my setup and happy to buy a license finally for moving to a Mac mini M4pro (headless)
Did the following steps
downloaded the MacOS DMG file
moved to the application folder
Trying to start up and get the following error message that the config file is missing, any idea want is wrong ?
You are missing one step that is mentioned in the installation instructions. I also mentioned it here in the HQPlayer thread. Just call hqplayerd with --install (double-dash, which this forum software doesn’t allow to show up).
did some testing today and it works like a charm - so HQPlayer and Roon could work on a headless Mac and could be access remotely by the related Interface. Just ordered a new Mac mini 4Pro and will do some testing over the next seeking
Got my new Mac Mini M4Pro with 24GB RAM today, plan for the weekend is to install the new 6.01 embedded MacOS version and get it working…coming closer to buy a license
HQPlayer OS does yes, it is a custom OS just for running HQPlayer Embedded. It is just like Roon ROCK is for Roon.
While HQPlayer Embedded is also available for regular Linux distributions and now also for macOS and Windows as well. HQPlayer Embedded is like Roon Server. So a headless server component. HQPlayer Embedded is managed through it’s web interface, while HQPlayer Desktop is managed through a local graphical interface, which you can of course also access remotely with Splashtop or similar.
Hi Marc, the MacOS HQPlayer embedded runs as a server on the Mac, besides ROON, the Interface access via a IP adress xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8088, in my setup it’s perfect on my iPad also used as a Roon Remote, Interesting to know: MacOS is limited to DSD256, for DSD512 or above a NAA endpoint need to be put in between, it is not the issue related to HQPlayer, no idea why Apple set this limit.
