poly-sinc-short-mp ??
That is my current choice and best there is so far. Tends to exaggerate bass. It is good, I agree, but there should be some more to dig out. Is a very thin line between over-energy in the high mid and the silk smooth mid I dream about. Perhaps I have reached the DAC performance limit and needs to push for DSD512 and even better modulator.
I do hope Santa drops by this year and happens to leave a linear new RME PSU with the uV regulator and error correction feed back.
This won’t stop until I am dead, or possibly my wife call the nice people with the special sweater where you hug yourself and you get a really nice long trip shot.
It surely worth trying different modulators. My “prog/rock/metal” choice was mostly 7ECv3.
Going up with DSD output rates will bring interesting, may even be desirable results, imho. But equally will depend on a DAC.
From your description you are now after better channel separation for messy masterings, is that it?
Sounds more like EQ, no? I have set up three simple convolution filters for my set up and room, to use depending on a source and my mood. Two classics - one against B&K and other vs Harman curves and third somewhat similar to Harman but with “bigger” bass.
have you tried sinc-Ls?
nope, not yet. But will, quite soon. Thanks
Now I have tried the sinc-Ls. Far better and calmer for the worst of the worst case scenarios. For the excellently recorded and post-processed tracks maybe and bit too smooth. Takes some edge and attack away, which was exactly what I asked for. But when source is good, the edge should not be/need not be smoothened. Tried also Sinc-S, was also a superb alternative for the kind of sources I sometimes listen to, all of these alternatives have not been within my reach until the updated PC, together with ASDM7EC Super.
Thanks guys! <3
i don’t hear Ls as smoothing things out as much as sinc-S
could very well be dac dependant. the king of smoothing is the beloved guass-long
Apart from the already mentioned poly-sinc-short-mp, also worth checking poly-sinc-gauss-short and poly-sinc-gauss.
And ASDM7EC-light or ASDM7EC-ul modulators.
Speed benchmark for filters would be a great feature. It could be easier to do tweaking and see what works and what does not.
It already exists… There’s a null backend for that purpose, which just throws the output data away as fast as possible. And then at the end of playback, HQPlayer reports elapsed time on the status bar. You can then compare that elapsed time to the total playback time it would have.

I think after some weeks trying, that ASDM7EC-Super + Sinc-S is the best. I going back and forth with my opinion about smoothing out and making it dull, but when playing the heavy riffs and symphonic parts of Nightwish I realize that the separation and presenting of various parts of the music feels more accurate and clearly separated. Some even disappear with other filter, but not with the Sinc-S. So even if smooth it doews not smear out the details as others can do.
So thanks guys! Even if this is OT I wanted to thank you for helping out.
