I am wish I could get a refund on both of my lifetime subscriptions!

I have had nothing but issues with Roon through my Sonictransporter into my Sonore Singnature Rendu. I am constantly have to reboot so it quits dropping the signal, turning it on and just working is an act of GOD. Why so many issues with ROON? I have dealt with this for years and just want to get what I paid for…twice!

Sounds like a network issue. Check your router.

Does Roon have issues or the hardware?

More info on this. You can’t just generalise the whole software or we’d all be up in arms about it. Some have no issues at all.. For years!

Network, what is it?
WiFi, Ethernet, power lines, switches, mesh network. Older hardware, software, is it all configured correctly. Sooooo many variables.

Not neccessarily a network issue at all. I have been having drop out issues with Roon for a while now, using Roon server connected with ethernet to a very stable network. It’s a Roon issue allright and I agree with the poster that it’s highly frustrating; especially being a lifetime subscriber

Hi @Ni_Mo - my advice to you is the same as to @Don_Vannatta - if you require assistance from Roon technical support, please follow this link to provide the details of your case to Technical Support: Technical Support Request

To date, you do not appear to have opened a support request with them.

If you’re having dropouts with Roon, it’s a network or hardware issue. Roon itself does not have dropouts.

In my old life operating radios this was called other enditis. The fixed notion that x is OK so it must be y can cost a lot of wasted time and effort.

Yes it can. Roon ‘s library maintenance can bring down a machine.

We should sympathize with our patient Roon developers, when having to analyse problems with complex and exotic minority hardware that they doubtless have limited access to…speaking as a long term computer systems developer accustomed to such trials and tribulations. The big success word with computer systems (and audio systems !!!) is the KISS Principle == Keep it Simple !!!

Dropouts and crashes are different symptoms, and frequent dropouts does point to a network issue.

The best recourse, as always, is for the OP to open a support ticket.

It can also point to Roon grinding itself to a halt updating the library and metadata. I have watched it happen with my Linux core right next to a windows remote…it hits too much CPU usage and the remote disconnects momentarily. That is a dropout, not a crash. Eyewitness report!

I’ve had years where Roon worked fine and I’ve had serious problems. The problem is that, when I have a problem with Roon, it’s almost always difficult-nigh-impossible to troubleshoot effectively. I’ve wasted dozens of hours troubleshooting problems that suddenly appeared with no clear cause and nothing logged in Roon’s logs.

I spent months, off and on, trying to figure out why I couldn’t import my library only to find that there was an issue with valid-but-weird metadata on some tracks. Support closed the case repeatedly, promising they would get back to me but never following through.

Then, where remotes had always been able to connect to my server…they suddenly weren’t able to connect. Nothing in the logs, nothing to go on. (Turning off Tailscale subnet routing on the server addressed this but it’s still not clear what the cause was or why it worked up until a Roon update…)

Then, Roon ARC simply won’t sync to my iPhone.

Then, today, zones are just disappearing a song or two into playback.

I’m glad you haven’t had a problem but it’s not helpful to minimise the experience of those who have.

Meanwhile, PlexAmp runs like a tank, never drops a connection, never has an issue. Perhaps, you might argue, that I’m not comparing apples to apples with that statement – and I would agree. But, the issues that cause Roon to be finicky and weird are, by and large, the tech debt of early decisions (eg, using LevelDB, using UDP & multicast) that don’t benefit users.

I have been through this over the years watching users complain only to be told they have no clue and it’s network network network problems they are experiencing. I would have never invested into Roon if I would have know about the dropouts and my so called network issues. I have 30k plus albums, invested a lot of money in gear to use Roon. I could have used another service, streamed Qobuz or Tidal and did away with the library management Roon provides vs the issues I have experienced over the years of use…

Why don’t ask for the official Roon support and work with them?

I already have, I now get to time stamp every time it drops and I have to reboot.

FWIW, I have the same setup (Sonictransport into Sonore Signature Rendu) and have only the occasional glitch (not enough to really complain about). I run with all components hardwired, including optical between the Sonore and the router (a normal router).

I don’t think it’s a hardware only thing. I suspect library contents also play a role, including tags and unidentified albums.

@Neil_Carpenter
A pure technical remark, I think that Roon is using TCP already since a long time. In the beginning of Roon, they started with UDP, but now it is TCP (which should be more stable).
Kind regards, Frank.
