I rebooted my router this morning and after that it gave a different IP address to the server. The remote would not connect anymore so I went in and scanned the new ip address and now it connects. Now the big problem is when I go to play a song on the remote mac the only zones showing up to be selected are the zones on the server. The remote is using a digital out connection to my receiver and it is working for other apps. I see the private zone in preferences but I cannot select it to play form the lower right hand corner zone selector, it only gives choices to use the zones on the server. Any idea what i should check?
What do you see if you click on the cog wheels of the private zones ?
I see options such as exclusive mode, integer, etc…
Just to be sure, are you saying that from the main browser screen where you see the summary play queue at the bottom, can you not click on the zone (bottom right corner) and select the local output ?
Is any zone showing as selected ?
The choices I get when I click on the zone is the zones on the core. I do not see the local (private zones) listed as a choice. I do see them defined as private zones in preferences however.
And this is the local machine that you are trying to view/select the local zones ? You aren’t trying to do that from another machine ?
Just covering the obvious…
This is a remote machine connected to the core. I can sound sound out the core audio devices from here but I cannot select any of the private zones here to play music here on the remote computer.
Suggest a reboot of the server core and then the remote. It may be something about the change in IP that just hasn’t landed properly.
Beyond that I am out of ideas. @vova will need to step in if reboots don’t help.
I solved it. I disconnected the remote computer in Roon. I rebooted the server and started up Roon on the server and then scanned for the server on the remote. It found the server, I connected and the audio connections are back.
Thanks for helping out with this I appreciate it
@Tim_Clardy, As a side note, it’s not wise to allow servers to change their IP addresses.
There are two approaches one can take to manage this:
-
Go into the router’s setting and specify a permanent IP address allocation against the MAC address of the server. Then when the server requests an IP address via DHCP the router will always assign the same IP.
-
Change the servers network adaptor a setting to use a fixed IP rather that obtaining one via DHCP.
There are pros & cons for each approach, personally I prefer the former.
