This option only exists for network shares added using “Add network share” in Roon.
Thanks - So it won’t exist if the folder is within a network share - It has to be the share itself? The share here is the Synology, but the folder is ‘music’ - if I changed the share to ‘music’ it should work?
Thanks again for your help!
No, what you show here is a local folder (from the looks of it) and there is no such option for local folders.
If you really insist, you could add the music folder as a network share:
\\{SynologyIP}\Media\Music
But i fail to se the reason for this…
Not if this is the “official” Roon Server Synology package (running on DSM7), what it looks like to be (local folder on a Synology NAS). Then trying to do that would be a futile exercise.
It used to work on my QNAP (during the period where local folder disappeared).
oh, maybe I get it now - is it because the core is running on the Synology, it’s considered a local drive? i have a share setup on my Windows desktop to the Synology - it thought it was what is mapped in Roon as the share. maybe not - maybe it’s the drive on the Synology?
Different company, different OS flavor. It is well known that Synology took away the possibility for apps to directly mount shares themself when they introduced DSM7. Something that is currently still doable on a QNAP NAS (and maybe also on ASUSTOR NAS).
Yes as the folder is located on the same NAS (machine) as Roon Server.
got it thanks - i guess my next question would be, why would it be limited to shares? The folder is on NAS, so it currently needs to be ‘force rescanned’ to add new music. I do have the ‘Background Audio Analysis’ scheduled, and supposedly it’s does a force rescan then, but I don’t think it currently is…
thanks again for your help -
IIRC, background analysis is for analyzing already known audio tracks. You can manually force a re-scan after importing albums / tracks or make the monitoring feature of your NAS work (again). See also: Agent run out of system notify watchers - Resilio Help Center
i think the rescan was added recently to the Scheduled background work piece..? but maybe somehow its the same deal with the network drives- ? don’t know….
Why would you not know? The text you linked clearly refers to networked storage (network shares) only.

well ok then - on that note, we’ll call this one closed.
