I’m trying to go through the troubleshooting but the questions aren’t appropriate.
I have Kef LSXII Roon Ready speakers. I did the latest Roon update to my Roon Rock yesterday without issue. Today, the iPad I use to control my Kef speakers offered the same upgrade level via the iTunes Store so I completed the upgrade.
Unfortunately I now get my music just stop at random times. Sometimes when I try to play a song, it will not play at all. Sometimes I get 3 seconds. I’ve just had it going for 20 mins or so after restarting the iPad app. But then it did it again.
The irony is this update is supposed to have stopped issues with these speakers but I used to have no issues with these speakers . Only issues have happened since I updated.
If this can be moved to the support category that’d be great - I was answering questions in there so it’d help me but it got to a point where it gave me three choices, none of which were appropriate hence me posting here.
Thank you - I know how to do this but the troubleshooting tree doesn’t get me to an appropriate place and, without me lying to it, I couldn’t go further and it wouldn’t get as far as making a thread.
We’ve taken a closer look at the relevant diagnostics available to our servers. There are two things occurring:
The iPad is failing to connect to RoonServer entirely. The client is available initially, but the RoonServer machine quickly loses sight of the remote. We’d need to verify the topology of the WiFi network serving this iPad to determine whether multicast traffic is going missing between RoonServer → iPad. I’d verify that multicast forwarding and IGMP snooping are enabled in any network mesh nodes or access points. Similarly, check the WiFi settings on the iPad itself to see if a Fixed (not a rotating) WiFi Address.
The KEF itself is not disconnecting from RoonServer, fortunately, and we see no evidence of the underlying mechanism that was resolved with 1510. What we do see is a Pause command reaching the KEF, likely erroneously, which causes it to automatically tear down the audio stream after 5 seconds of inactivity. Take note that that the RAATServer in your RoonServer machine (not the iPad) is actually controlling these endpoints - the iPad commands must pass through RoonServer. If you are exclusively using the iPad to control these endpoints, then the most likely culprit is the traffic interruptions in play commands between iPad → RoonServer.
Do you have a timestamp
Restarting the iPad app will only affect the app, not the underlying connection between KEF and your RoonServer machine. However, restarting the Roon app on your iPad will prompt the device to re-announce itself to RoonServer, restoring playback control.
Do you have a timestamp of when a dropout last occurred?
Please list out the relevant network equipment here, since we’ll need to know more granular details for effective troubleshooting. Any managed switches will be of particular relevance, along with any network security software you’ve installed.
I’m not sure how to exactly do timestamps but can tell you the first time I had an issue was 7 hours back from now so around 3.30 U.K. time. It was when I tried to play the track ‘Linger Longer’ by Cosmo Sheldrake and I then tried to play BC Camplight’s ‘Kicking up a fuss’. Hopefully you can find it from there? The next time a dropout occurred was around 20 mins after that. I have now (as per the recommendation in this thread) turned off the ROCK and turned it on again. I haven’t had a dropout since but only used it for maybe 30 mins so I’m not clear yet if I’m out of the woods or not!
I can tell you more network details but please realise that this iPad on this network with my Roon core and these speakers worked 100% flawlessly until the new software was installed so I think, perhaps, my setup might not be relevant? The new software went on the ROCK yesterday and did not cause issues. It was only when I then put the iPad software on that we had the issue.
I wanted to check in, how are things working after the update? I activated diagnostics mode and taking a look over your recent log set it looks like the system is working better, does that also sound accurate from your end? Let us know when you have a chance, thanks!
I’ve had less time home with the Kefs than I’d like the last few days but the reboot of the Rock (so far!) seems to have fixed it.
The weird thing is that, after the latest upgrade, ARC was fine and I didn’t have issues streaming to my Denon 250 - it just seemed to be the Kefs that weren’t happy yet both the Denon and Kefs were using iPad and rock to work. Most odd but maybe I didn’t play the Denon enough to really exclude that being an issue too.
I’ll report back again in a few days when it’ll hopefully have had a few more hours to be sure I’m issue free again
