you said a year ago (over at Audiophilestyle - maybe here too) that HATs and Diretta don’t work well together. Is that still the case? I have been looking at the DigiAMP + HAT, but your comment has made me wait…

I found this to be the case with the Pi 2 Design PI2AES Pro Audio Shield, a $249 HAT that uses the HiFiBerry drivers. My main concern was that CPU utilization on the Target was higher with this board installed. I should pull it out and test it again with the latest kernel and drivers to see if things have improved.
The second issue was that it just didn’t sound very good. At least not compared to the much less expensive SMSL PO100 Pro USB DDC going into the same DACs via COAX S/PDIF.
Finally, DSD64 via DoP was glitchy with the HAT but fine via the SMSL DDC.
At $42.95 ($83.85 with power supply and a suitable case), trying the DigiAMP+ HAT is relatively low-risk. If it does not work well with Diretta (or AudioLinux), you can always do a minimal install of Raspberry Pi OS or RoPieee and still have a nice little Roon zone that drives passive loudspeakers.
