It is unreal that in 2026, the correction (mainly when it has not been automatically identified) process is so bad
1- The identification button has disappeared. It never existed on Roon Remote by smartphone (and why not ???) but it has now also disappeared on Roon Remote from PC! Why so? It’s crazy that the GUI and performance can be downgraded that much. How can I get the old version which was much more aligned with my needs?
2- Having to hit the down or the up buttons that much to correct wrong track assignments is awful when drag & drop is the standard
I wonder if my context is rare or not, so let’s define it:
I have a now old library, but with regular additions. Some are single and isolated tracks, some are full albums, and some are also missing tracks as I am used to deleting the tracks I don’t like at all.
I use Android Roon Remote and only Linux PC…
I am not … and not intending to subscribe to a streaming service
I paid for a lifetime subscription, and I would like to see the basic services of such a tool (playing music, seeing the information including the cover, …) be available and easy to use. I tried yesterday to fix a missing album cover during a dinner with friends, but couldn’t. Does this showcase Roon well?
my demand is to focus on the very basic of such a tool:
Easy identification / selection of albums and covers from ANY remote (Android or Windows…)
Simple corrective tool when manual tracks reassignment is needed (not one giving the impression that we use 1990s software)
Ideally seeing Linux taken into account either via a proper version or a maintained process under Wine or VM)
If you mean this, there was recently a bug where it was not displayed on the album page. This was fixed already, make sure that you installed all Roon updates.
I had another try and I find it through the … icon on the right and identify after. Maybe I didn’t reboot after the update? Thanks for your reactions which made me reboot.
However, the remarks considering the ability to do it from roon remote on Android and Linux as well as the track by track management (grouping and repositioning) are still valid.
Yes, this is really bad and annoying UI. This was brought up many times, e.g., here, but not changed yet:
By the way, deleting tracks from albums causes Roon to get confused and have identification problems that aren’t necessary. Maybe these options are helpful:
Don’t delete them but hide them. This way you won’t see them and they won’t be played, but Roon still knows that they are there and can use them for album identification.
Lots of people have it working. Note that the main Roon app when used in WINE cannot output audio to the local audio device by itself, though streaming to a network streamer works.
If you want to play to the local audio device, you need to install Roon Bridge for Linux separately. Then choose this as the endpoint in the main app.
