· I've been a longtime subscriber to Qobuz. Recently, after all the issues with Qobuz, I added Tidal. Now I'm ready to quit Qobuz for good. My question is: When I do, what happens to all the albums that are still - for reasons I don't understand - identified in Focus as part of my Qobuz library. As far as I can tell, all these albums have Tidal versions. If the Qobuz primary versions are no longer available - because I quit Qobuz - will Roon simply substitute the Tidal versions? Thanks.
To move the albums from Qobuz to Tidal, you need to use Soundiiz or a similar service as @Andrew_Webb says.
However even then they will be seen by Roon as NEW Tidal albums. Your Roon metadata will NOT be transferred from the Qobuz versions to the Tidal versions. (Play counts, Roon tags, Roon favorites, star ratings, any album metadata you may have edited in Roon, etc.)
Your Roon playlists will contain now-unavailable Qobuz tracks. This can mostly be fixed with the Playlist Improver:
After you have quit Qobuz, logged out of Qobuz in Roon, and are SURE that you don’t want to to return to Qobuz anymore, you may want to head to Roon Settings > Library > Library Maintenance > Clean Up Library, to remove the now-stale references to the Qobuz objects from the Roon library.
Thanks for the quick reply. However, the problem is a little more complicated. I transferred all my albums from Qobuz to Tidal via Soundiiz when I first subscribed to Tidal. However, Roon’s Focus still shows around 700 albums as stored in my Qobuz Library. I don’t know why this is the case; I suspect it has something to do with the fact that these albums were all added to Tags when Qobuz was my only service. But it’s these albums that I’m concerned about. Any ideas? Thanks.
It’s because the Roon database still retains the links to the objects for the Qobuz albums, even if the Qobuz albums are currently unavailable. This is necessary because, e..g., someone might log out only temporarily from Qobuz - you wouldn’t want this to make Roon immediately forget everything about the Qobuz albums.
Even now, if you were to decide to subscribe to Qobuz again, Roon would find the albums again and reconnect them to the object links that it still knows about in the database.
To get rid of them for good, you have to explicitly tell Roon that it should forget these objects, and I addressed this here:
It’s not that I want to get rid of the albums for good, it’s that I’m afraid I will lose the contents of my “Qobuz Library” (according to Focus) when I do decline to renew my Qobuz subscription next month.
As I mentioned, most or all of these albums albums have Tidal versions. (That is, when I go to the album and look at Versions, it shows both Qobuz and Tidal “Library Versions”; however, the Qobuz version is shown as Primary.) So maybe that means that the Tidal version is actually in my library and, when I discontinue Qobuz, Roon will simply substitute the Tidal version. Does that sound right?
As long as you don’t Clean Up Library, they will stay in the library but as unavailable.
Only if you transfer the Qobuz favorites to Tidal with Soundiiz. This is independent of Roon. Soundiiz will do the work of reading all favorited albums (and playlists etc) from your Qobuz account and add them as favorites in your Tidal account. Once they are favorited in your Tidal account, Roon will automatically sync them into your Roon, as it always does when an album gets favorited in your Qobuz/Tidal apps.
NO. It will sync your Tidal favorites into Roon after you do the transfer with Soundiiz, but it will NOT “simply substitute” them. They will appear in Roon, but as newly added versions of the albums, and any data that Roon has about the Qobuz versions will NOT be transferred:

Nevertheless, according to Focus, I still have a Qobuz Library consisting of 682 albums;
When I examine those albums individually, each shows two Library Versions: one Qobuz, one Tidal, but for each, the Qobuz version is Primary;
I have two questions:
First, having transferred all my files from Qobuz to Tidal, why does Roon still report that, for 682 albums, the Qobuz version is the Primary Version.
Second, when I discontinue Qobuz, how will Roon treat those 682 albums? Will they all still appear in my library, but with the Tidal version primary? Or what?
IF they say Tidal and they say Qobuz, then you can safely log out of Qobuz and let it expire, or just let it expire naturally. The Tidal albums will still work.
Qobuz will stop being an option.
You have done everything you need to do, and if everything you’ve posted is correct, you will not lose access to the music.
Part of the OP question had to do with his Roon metadata content that he had associated with the Qobuz albums. I assume this is things like custom tags he’s added in Roon (as well as the listen counts and stuff like that).
I often have an album from Tidal that I later buy on Bandcamp and then upload to my Roon server local library. When I look at those albums in Roon, it shows a Tidal version and a library version. In that case, is the metadata from Roon – like listen counts or a custom tag that I add – associated with the album as the object or with the Tidal or library instance of the object?
Related variation of the question would be: If I put an album in a custom tag or a Roon playlist when I only had the Tidal version, would the tag also apply to the library version once the library was there? If I had a Roon playlist that mixed local files and Tidal-only songs, but then switched to Qobuz, if I had the Tidal-only song now in my Qobuz library, would Roon automatically recognize the Qobuz version as the same item for that mixed playlist?
