Describe the issue

I have just imported a folder of 280 CDs, something like 200+ are not displaying artwork in Roon. Each CD has complete metadata and a copy of it's front cover .jpg within it's folder. I have ticked "prefer file" for everything. They display perfectly in Foobar and the Naim app but not in Roon so far. I have subsequently tried select all > edit > rescan but that has not made any difference.

Have you tried Settings > Setup > Clear Image cache?

And are the files in one of Roon’s preferred formats?

Thanks for writing in to ask us about this issue. The thread @Mark_Sealey referenced is also where I would have referred you. Please let us know if the album art still isn’t showing up after following those steps.

It turns out that my missing artwork was all in folders with a .gif cover picture, not .jpg. So i have been trying with .jpg and so far it seems to be working.

Which is odd because Roon will accept a .gif as a manual update, it just wont automatically detect them during a re-scan.

but at least i understand (I think/) the reasons for the problem. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for the update. We’re glad to hear converting to .jpg allows for this artwork to import successfully.

I’ll clarify the intended treatment of .gif format artwork with the team.

What is currently toggled in Settings → Library → Import Settings under Metadata Preferences for Albums → Artwork?

For due diligence, have you verified that the .gifs meet Roon’s image treatment minimums: at least 960px wide, with an aspect ratio greater than 1.55?

Thanks for the update.

FWIW, I already have import settings set to “prefer file” for everything. And the old .gifs are standard album art pics.

There’s a feature request for GIF support in Roon here, just to let you know: Allow .gif files as cover art.

You can vote and comment there to add momentum.
